Black Bugs

took Ryu to the vet and took a sample of the black bug. The vet said it had "long antenna" and was not a mite or a flea or anything she's seen that is harmful for the bird. She also looked at the parrot and saw nothing concerning. 100 bucks later, I still have no answers :( but am happy that Ry is okay.

Thanks for the update! At least you can sleep soundly knowing they aren't feasting on Ryu :D

Looking at the one photo, where they are all over some ones hand, and the fact that the vet said they are not any thing known to be harmfull to birds, plus what someone mentioned about being found is some of the foods, makes me think these are related to agricultural insects or problem, if there is any where in your area like a university , you might be able to find a science department
where they could get Analyzed.
It sounds like something I have found on plants, and inside seed pods, they are devastating , ig and when one is trying to get quality seed, from their plants because they get inside the seed pod
before it develops, and destroys the seed, they also can be found under the leaves, like aphids,
I do not know what they are called, but if you have house plants, or a nice garden out side , you will want to be very carefull where and how you dispose of the material, and bugs, etc, when you clean the cages, etc.
Don't use it for fertilizer in your garden,(if you have one) your plants will get infested with them.
I am sure as well, they are of no threat to the birds, but could be very harmful to some kinds of pants. This is something that makes producing "organic" seed and foods, kind of difficult , because no insecticides are used, the suggestion about the alcohol is good, also is good on plants as well to spray them. I don't know if it would work on these though.

Most effective and safe product I suggest to get rid of pest in a cage is 91% alcohol in a spray bottle. Remove water and food of course (and the bird).. spray the nasty lil critters and it usually kills them by dehydrating them. 91% alcohol evaporates really quick and leaves no toxic residue. I share to opinion of others here.. your critters are in the seed.. probably kind of a lil weevil.. I have seen them before. The larvae are inside the seeds themselves and when mature they come out.
Yep, if the food is any good, it has bugs!
And this:

These were the other posts I saw, I think so as well, again, don't use the droppings , etc, from the cages as fertilizer,... harmless for the birds, but very harmful to the plants and their seed production.
