Parrots
Green cheek conure
One day BellaMia loves me, the next she’s bitting. Have been able to get her on my finger twice…I’m excited and thrilled. She knows what she wants this smart little girl, and I think she’s got me trained!
The vet said when she bites she gets a time out!!!! The vet raised her parrots and she puts them back in their cages. In the cage or not, to Bella, it’s all ok. How do you do a time out that she’ll understand?
I covered her which didn’t bother her at all, I also raised my voice when I said no. She’s fine with that as well. She’s probably thinking “mommy loves me, she’ll be back.” Spoiled brat, but oh so darn cute.

Hi there, may I ask how old your parrot is?

Have you started any training with your parrot? It really helps those busy minds be occupied, and it also helps build a healthy bond.

Depending of course on your parrots age, and such. It is spring where I’m at. It means hormones for a few of my parrots. They are more prone to bite at these times. Also after my baby parrots reached puberty there was a difference in personality.

I hope something in here helps! I’m sorry your parrot is biting. Both of my conures are a little on the nippy side too.

I think your vet was also explaining something called “shunning” for parrots who are biting. You can do research on it. I’ve gotten different results with my parrots. The goal is to put your parrot on a surface after they bite (immediately), and give them your back/walk away. Parrots are flock animals and some don’t want to be “shunned”. This is how they treat each other in nature.

Thank you to both of you, I will try the shunning.
Bella is a rescue. I have her for 1weeks now. She’s two yrs old.
For the past two weeks she's been loving me. I’ve been able to get her to eat out of my hand and she cuddles under my neck.
Her bad behavior has been since I took her to the vet, I’m wondering if that’s the problem.
Prior to the vets visit I was able to get her to step up two times. She even kisses me through the cage…she likes my lipstick
How do you give them a time out?
I always let her put of the cage at night while we’re home. Maybe tonight I’ll keep her inside.

Oops. That’s 10 weeks
