My sun conure sunny, has been at our house for around 2-3 weeks now. AT first he bit hard and drew blood, when You put your finger near him. He got better, but tonight He was on my shoulder and wouldnt stop biting my neck. It hurt! I didnt want to sit there and take that so I Put my finger in front of him and he bit that so i yanked my shirt off and he took off flying but got back up on my finger. I dont want to make him hate me :( but I do wish he would stop biting alot. Any ideas on what to do? Its not just me handling him its 4 other people at different times, Could it be he likes one of them more or what?

Do not let a biting bird on your shoulder. My Amazon can not get on my shoulder because he still nips. I do not want a trip to the er to fix my eye, ear or lips. Please take a step back, you have not been together long and do not really now each other yet.

How old is Sunny? What training have you been giving him in the 2-3 weeks he's been at your house? How much interaction does he get from you on a daily basis? How much interaction does he get from others on a daily basis? Does he have toys to play with? Does he normally play with his toys?

Not sure if you've heard that parrots are like having two year old children around...and...like two year old children, they need direction and guidance.....they don't hatch out all nice, sweet & polite, they need to be taught what behavior is acceptable and what behavior is not acceptable.....

If you search the internet for parrot training, you will find more listings than you care to check, but your question "Any ideas on what to do?" cannot be answered in a few paragraphs.....and while I would normally end my post here, we have a member who just posted to a similar thread, only she provided a few more reading links, so I'm including this link for your reading pleasure: http://www.parrotforums.com/macaws/31128-step-up-training.html

Enjoy.....

He is three years old. I really havent gave him any training because hes been so good. It just was tonight. Maybe he was just tired, it was his bed time, or maybe because I just got out from outside and I have a certain smell on me that he didnt like. He gets around 3 hours of activity with me and maybe about the same with the other people, They are just the ones that get him up in the am. Thank you for the links, I just cant assume the bird is like a dog.

My conure started the exact same way. I started by wearing a scarf (because I like her on my shoulder) and every time she was out, if she started biting I would just give her time-outs (after saying "no" when she does it. Within no time her biting went down to almost nothing, and even now if she does for some reason it's very light. I accept only a certain amount of pressure. I never yell at her, or snatch my hand away. At first you just have to take your lumps a little....she'll understand it hurts with the time outs and stop.
Her time outs lasted about 15 minutes or so, just to cool off. Now she loves to hang out on my shoulder and play all the time, and she never bites any more.

Hi guys,

We are having the same problem with our baby pearly conure at the moment! He is 4 months old and his biting seems to be getting worse. He is being especially naughty today. We had trained him to poo on his cage and do step up Etc but today and yesterday he just does not want to know. when ever he Lands on me or my partner he just bites the hell out of us. We've been trying to work out why he is biting ... Hungry... tired ...not getting enough attention ... Wanting to be fussed but it really doesn't seem to be any of these. He is usually so well behaved but the last week and especially the last 2 days he seems like a different bird! Doesn't want to go on or in his cage and just seems to be flying erratically around Any ideas?! I fully intend to look at the other link that's been posted further above also!

:green2:Omg he's so cute! Hes probably just being a baby.

Ill have to try this, Its hard with the other people in the house letting him bite and then feeding him or something. Hes going to develop a habit or just plain hate me.

another thing how do you get the bird into the cage or when he bites get him off from you. When he gets on my finger he tries desperately to get up to my shoulder. Is there a way to grab him with out him freaking out to move him off?
