Kitoko: Female Senegal Parrot, born 2002
Talia: Female CAG, born 2008
Mateo: Female CAG, born 2008
Curiosity finally got the better of me... $74 dollars later and now I have to wait 2 weeks for results! What do you think my birds are? I've been assuming their gender till now but it's fun to guess!

Kitoko: a senegal who's all about me me me. Totall attention hog and lover of my husband. Would live off of carrots and almonds if I let it and is still the most easy going bird in the house.

Mateo: Calm but more talkative than its sibling, this CAG has a bad habbit of breaking the blood feathers in its wings so that the stumps are mostly splintered hollows. It loves water only when it's pipping hot and is fine hanging out on its back as long as it has its chew bone to hold on to. Goes through toys slowly and will thoroughly shred every piece.

Talia: The spitfire; won't let Teo share its perch when crawling up from underneath it. More quick to catch on to new things, but much more likely to nip and is much harder to settle. Will to to a toy in a day that Teo will do in a fortnight.

WHAT ARE THEY?! :09:

Talia, definitely female! :p
Mateo, my guess is male!

and Kitoko, well... I'd lean towards female, but my Merlin is 'mememe' and is certainly a daddys boy too, and he's dna'd male! I also think 'easy going' is generally a male trait!

So I say female, but there's a niggling in my tum that says I should say male :p

Got any detailed photos of the underside of their tail feathers? And some clear shots of body, wings open? ;)

Do you think Mateo would benefit from getting imped?

I am terrible at guess birds gender's.

Mishka my CAG is usually spot on, will ask him tomorrow.
I am not joking
When members have sent off for dna's and are awaiting a reply I always ask Mishka
I mention the birds name and then say boy or girl
A few days later he pops up with his answer.
So far he has been 100% accurate.

Will let you know !!!!

I've considered imping, but the feather stumps are so shredded that there wouldn't be anything for the new feathers to hold on to. That aside, there aren't many avian vets in my area. See, the blood feathers break and the blood inside runs out or turns hard and crumbles out, leaving the shaft hollow and brittle so it splinters and cracks up the sides. At least that is what I think is happening from what I can tell. I'll post about it later with pics.

The feathers really don't have to be that long for imping... in fact, after hearing about a scarlet that got imped, and he also had really short feathers that also broke while growing in, the vet said the shafts were perfect!

Downside is the cracking... which I understand! But I wonder if the shafts could somehow be reinforced? I would expect so if the vet would use a fully formed feather, it could somehow be taped or glued shut?

Just thinking of ideas!

Hahaha okay... This would happen to me! My poor husband and our cat Arthur are officially out numbered! Me, my Bitty Kitty, and now three feathered women!

Take pity on the men, they're scared... ;p

Oh wow! Lovely, nice that you've got so many laid back hens :)

74 for a dna test on 3 birds is really a great price , my vet wants 76 dollars just to dna test Smokey , I have a kit from Avian Bio Tech so am going to do my own dna test for 20 bux some time next week , just snip a piece of nail and use a blood card it's easy and should get the results back in 10 days

have you done this before??....it sounds easy but when you have to cut your birds nail enough to make it bleed, it might make you cringe a little:eek:

remember to place the nail clippers in rubbing alcohol before you clip the nail, get everything you need out before hand, have a second pair of hands to help, and last but not least, you will need something like quick stop, or corn starch to stop the bleeding.

I've done many of them, and it really is a cost saver compared to the vets, you get the exact same results for a lot cheaper!

Avian Biotech is where I got mine done. I sent in the feathers last Tuesday from BC and just got the results today. They claim 1-3 days for results and I got mine only 1 day after they received them.

LOL
Now we.know why Mishka said WOW, 3 girlies he wants to come to your house to play!!
Congrats!!!

Bosley might want to too, Three angels what more could a boy want.

I dna tested Rocky and Opey , I have a friend that helped me with Opey and my hubby helped me with Rocky probably going to have my hubby help me with Smokey , it does take 2 people for sure but you get the results back pretty quick and they send you a nice certificate

Congrads on all the girls :)

both of my birdies are boys and very curious to see what Smokey is
