birds behaving strangely

this morning all my fids were acting strange, really fidgeting and flappy. they were especially squarky and when i left the room they would scream blue murder. i couldn't figure out what got into them.

well 20 mins later the sky went black, the wind picked up, it poured down in torrents with a storm too!

well they all shut up after that, and beau's expression seemed to say 'i tried to tell you to get the washing in'

any one else have 6th sensed birds?

Cal appears to not care. She knows, because when that happened yesterday, she went into her happy hut. I thought she was just tired but then the temp dropped suddenly, the heavens opened and the wind went MENTAL! She just sat in there burbling away while I told her she was clever and gave her some apple.

The dogs always know - they don't like it. Except Boots who will bad temperedly trot into the garden and bark at the sky to shut up when it's thundering!

You have a very special brood there! You'll always know what's going on

Your own little weathermen! Yes, my birds behave jittery right before a storm. Animals really have a 6th sense when it comes to this.

We had a little dog, when I was little, who used to swim just before the heaven's opened, he was so cute. Amazing how different animals re-act when weather changes are coming in.
Mishka goes to the opposite side of where she normally sits, hears the thunder and says, the boom boom are gone......LoL trying to teach her to say, the boom boom are coming now now, so far the boom booms are coming mommy

I remember (more years than I care to admit) writing a report paper in high school on how most animals and many insects are in tune with such things as sudden changes in weather, earth quakes, volcanic erruptions, ect, ect, could be the sixth sense makes up for the lack higher intelligence, where they flee or take cover out of instict instead of using a thought process, makes you think, humans supposedly being so smart, and how many times you hear in spite of getting advanced warnings on such things as hurricanes or volcanic erruptions, humans stay put, do nothing, and perish, makes you wonder who really is the intelligent ones.

That reminds me of a comedian from the UK that did a piece on alarms. How you always push snooze. He pondered whether these people pushed smoke alarms off and said: let's have another 15. We'll burn a bit, it'll be alright!

Also Melly, Boots is never scared of things she should be!! She's generally sensible but this summer, the amount of times I found her pawing at wasps.....oh for goodness sake!!!!

I must get this on video, when Mishka sees a fly......
She goes completely beserk, running around at the bottom of her cage, trying to catch them. It looks hilarious, but we know just how irritating a fly can be.

do parrots eat insects or smaller birds in the wild. just asking cos beau watches fly's too and when the smaller birds (budgies and canary's) see him they go mental! its like he's a predator, but their vegetarian....arn't they??

I read somewhere that alxandrines are onee of the few parrot species that will actively hunt insects, though Ms. Beak has tried to chase the fruit flies on occasion -without luck- I've never seen her go after bigger insects, my house mercifully free of cluster flies, so she doesn't get much opportunity... Or maybe she eats them all before I even see them?

also, as I understand it, all birds are atleast slightly omnivorous. Some, like raptors are fully carnivorous, but almost no birds will pass up the opportunity to eat a little previously-living protein. If you've ever watched your parot relish a bit of chicken you know what I mean!

I don't know about other large parrots, but in reseaching the Greater Vasa (long story) I learned that they have been observed in the wild taking baby mice, small lizards, and small songbirds on occasion. They aren't great hunters, but if the opportunity comes and they're in the mood they'll kill and eat small creatures.
