Birdie has always preferred my husband over me even though I do all the feeding, cleaning, etc. She’s affectionate with me too in spurts and is always sweet with me, but she just seemed to prefer spending most of her time with “Eddie.” This didn’t bother me at all because our two small dogs are devoted to me exclusively and it was great to see Eddie had his very own birdie that’s preferred him. He was in the hospital for two weeks this spring (we are seniors) and Birdie spent a lot of time in the dining room looking out the sliders for him to come home. When he came home, she was ecstatic, never leaving his side.
All of a sudden, weeks later, she prefers me and is ignoring her best friend. My husband is the sweetest person, but I know he is saddened by this change. I guess we’re just lucky Birdie loves both of us, right?

You are lucky that Birdie loves you both :) In my house - I do all the feeding, cleaning, etc for the birds. Baby and Tango have always preferred me and almost never go to my husband. Bindi can’t make up her mind who is her person lol - one week she loves me, the next she loves my husband. Screamer definitely prefers my husband (and puts up with me if my husband is not there). I’m sure that Birdie will work her way back to her best friend!

I tell everyone our black-capped likes me, but she LOVES my husband. And I think that is for the best. I'm the bird lover, my husband tolerates them. My husband does call her sweet little names because she has shown she likes him. He lets he cuddle with him, and holds her while she naps, and gives her little kisses when I'm not looking. I can wrestle with her and touch her in places my husband shouldn't. She already gets possessive of him, if he showed her the affection I do we would have a monster on our hands.
