I get to write a report on a scientist for extra credit for my grade . I searched the Internet for HOURS and I couldn't find any names of a parrot scientist. I have gone crazy searching and I don't think I am ready to write something about Darwin evolution . Anybody know any scientists who study parrots ?

Famous Ornithologists - Ornithology
Hmmm..... Ornithologists are 'bird scientists', as far as I know. Here's a list. :) That was a quick Google search though, let me look into it more and see what I come up with. I can't find any parrot Ornithologists. :(

Great to see I'm not the only one that does parrot related reports. I'm doing that animal mill paper and a science fair project on parrot intelligence. :D Good luck!

Can you do a living scientist? Maybe you can do your report on Dr. Irene Pepperberg. She does studies on parrots. She wrote a book that you can maybe? buy. But she's a good one...
the alex studies - Google Search

S Kleindorfer and J Robertson are my coordinators for my uni course, and they both study birds, not parrots though :p at the moment their biggest research is on Darwins Finches, bird song, parasites and speciation. XD so you could tie in a bird report to darwin anyway

Don't know if this would be of any help....
World Parrot Trust - Ask an Expert

It would probably help to figure out what you want to write about so you can narrow it down to the kind of person to speak with...

Unfortunately, science has changed a lot in the last couple of decades. It costs an incredible amount of money to complete a study, and in order to get that money you have to publish. Its super competitive to get research published, and it has driven the scientific community to focus on application. As a result, unless you can apply your work to a something that people can relate to, the work is considered useless. Grant agencies wont fund research for the sake of research. You wont find someone who just studies parrots in general. You would be best to look into someone with a DVM/PhD who investigates a disease or genetic mutation. Alternatively, you could look into an endangered species and you might find a conservation biologist.

Object permanence in four species of psittacine birds: An African Grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus), an Illiger mini macaw (Ara maracana), a parakeet (Melopsittacus undulatus), and a cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus) - Springer

This is an example of a researcher who studies animal behavior using parrots. I would start with google scholar. If you have a hard time getting a journal article (you often have to pay for them) just PM me and I might be able to get it for you for free. I have access to a bunch of research data bases through the university where Im doing my PhD.

you could try Dr Ross Perry, if you know enough about viruses to write enough about them. :) He studies Cockatoos, because he studies PBFD and other psittacine viruses...
