I know, I saw that yesterday. Its depressing that there is so much of this abuse going on. Did you see the masks they had to use just to go in the house? How bad could it have been, I probably couldn't imagine.

Yes I saw!!! All my customers was telling me about it, I don't get to watch the news much cause I work too much. My customers know that I have birds, they asked me if I was gonna adopt some when they become available. I don't think I can....too many already...

That is so sad. I hope the birds can find good homes like they deserve.

Very sad to see. I can feel bad for the hoarder that feels they are saving the animals, I can not feel bad for the person doing it to make a profit. How could you live in that everyday and think its OK?

I always thing with animal hoarders, what's so hard about properly taking care of these animals? I saw one on TV and the lady had 4 acres but chose to keep 10 chickens in a cage fit for a parakeet, and goats in a tiny little section so they could barely move. You have 4 darn acres, to me it just sounds like some people do it to PURPOSELY hurt the animals and watch them suffer. I completely disagree when everyone assuming they're saving them. I also saw one with rats where the lady had like 20 rats per cage and not enough food which led to cannibal behavior. That's plain cruel, and I personally believe they should stop hiding behind the newly popular hoarding excuse and face animal cruelty charges. There are people with REAL mental issues, and then there are those who are just cruel to animals and are using it as an excuse.

Exactly what I mean, but he won't get cruelty charges because of his "hoarding disease". He makes breeders have a bad name, there are so many people like the Lovebird Farm in Cali who take care of hundred of birds really well, it's so sad to see this.

This lady didn't care about the parrots, it was all profit based. Hoarders are not the same. Hoarders usually have a mental illness. They are in denial, and in most cases feel they are doing the best they can. I think it was on an episode of Hoarders I watched; A woman, in a wheel chair had 100's of pigs. Started with one, turned into 100's. She loved those pigs. The county came in to do a check up and found some of them had paralytic rabies, so they had to take all the animals off the farm. They brought a semi truck, loaded all the pigs into, and gassed them. This woman sat in her wheel chair in her yard and watched the whole thing. Do you know how mentally damaging that is? In her case she meant no harm to these pigs. She really thought she was doing right by them. These pigs were her life, and within hours they were all gone, killed right in front of her.

That is a REAL case of hoarding, and that's terrible. I saw one episode where a guy started with two dogs that turned into 100's. They destroyed his house, he borrowed money and went into town to get food and water all the time. It was terribly sad, he loved those dogs more then having a home or something to eat for himself. Cases like this one that's been posted destroy real hoarder cases, because many of them seem like plain animal cruelty.

That is upsetting . I think the government of every country should have a national name and shame database where everyone convicted of animal cruelty or neglect is on it. Something that breeders and stores selling animals can access and refuse sales to that person. Maybe the hoarders can be permitted to own one or two animals (and if two they must be unable to breed) since they do care but it prevents things from getting out of hand. Stop them from ever owning animals again!

I agree Anna! I just watched this with Zeus on my shoulder. I said to him "see how good you've got it Zeus" and he said "oooooh!" and continued munching on his apricot. Ingrate!
Those neighbours complained numerous times...how did it go on for so long?????My heart goes out to those poor poor birds.

I bought my Senegal Parrot from her 3 yrs ago . I was only in her enclosed porch,there were probably 20 birds in there . I'm so glad we save our Izzy from this. We got our bird when she was 3 months old . The lady was telling me not to take her to the vet because she could caught diseases. I do take her to vet to have her wings clipped . Our bird is very healthy . I feel so bad for all hose other birds.

Ok i read through this really quick and this is a case i go crazy reading. I also noticed within the forums that there is a "lack of understanding" (which most of the common public has) as to the "hoarding situations".

THIS person ran a MILL, A mill is a "animal farm" the animals needs are tossed aside and they are kept in slummy unsanitary conditions solely for the purpose of profit, animals are sold to pet stores, brokers etc.

A "Hoarder" as defined as someone who has an underlying mental condition or trauma that they try and fill the void with animals, as animals don't judge them and love them unconditionally no matter what they do (in the hoarders eyes they don't realize the flighty timidness within their animals isn't a good thing) in most cases they believe they are doing what is best for the animals even though it isn't.

this is normal conditions in animal mills. ALLOT of big name companies use small animal mills to buy these animals, this mill is commonly used by some BIG name pet store chains :

mill animals are also sold through "private brokers" who say they get them from "ethical breeders" to pet stores. or VIA internet ads. ALWAYS BE WEARY OF INTERNET ADS.

birds can easily come from situations like this where only the young are worked with but the parents are KEPT IN HORRIBLE CONDITIONS.
People like this function through Kijiji, Craigslist ETC.
if a person and they WILL NOT allow you to pick up your bird etc WALK AWAYif you feel like something isn't right or they allow you to visit and you notice bad conditions ALWAYS be plesent with the person and friendly when you leave CALL THE SPCA/RESCUE in your area.

People get away with these things WAY to easy because people are scared to call etc.

IF you feel suspicious about an ad that you see you are interested and the person won't let you visit/ puts up a fuss about you asking to without good reason (fear of disease transmission etc) you CAN call the spca to inform them that you haven't been there but that "blah blah blah" has happened etc so they can decide if it is worth looking into,

REMEMBER:

WE ARE THE CAUSE OF THESE MILLS.
We are the demand that causes need for supply.
If there was NO demand there wouldn't be need for SUPPLY.
If people STOPPED buying animals out of pet stores completely this would stop.
Almost 99% of animals in pet stores come from unethical places with no care for the animal.
It's all about the money.

Uhg, That was painful to watch. I hope even if he gets no charges brought up against him that they at least put their foot down and ban that person from having and more animals. They certainly do not deserve any ever again!

Netty is right. There is a difference between hoarders & animal mills. I have seen both, and they are both horrible situations. Either way, the animals don't come out very well. Whether for money, or a twisted sense of love, this is abuse. And only people with problems can live like that. Aside from the animal issues, did you see that house? Nobody in their right mind can live like that, in such filth. It's very sad. Recently there was a similar situation in Troy, Ohio. And down here in Florida. Unfortunately, it is happening everywhere.
