Parrots
Cockatiels - Oz & Kaila
Finally got all the main pieces to finish my playgym. I'm still missing 4 PVC caps and the accessories I want to put on, but the biggest part of the work is done (my hands suffered, let me tell you)

Lol, I wrote bird not included because Oz won't go anywhere near it so far xD

Also, more good news, I managed to get him to finally eat something other than seeds/pellets

Baby, you got carrot on your chin

Wow! You did a fantastic job on that playgym!! I'm sure Oz will go on it soon. And YAY for Oz for trying some different foods!!! :D

Thanks! The ropes really took a while. I put it next to the cage for now so he'd get used to it, but I'll move it when he starts playing on it so I can keep him next to me at the computer. That's why I decided to put bowls on it.

Now if only those accessories could arrive too. I also ordered to much rope so I might make a climbing net on one side with the leftovers.

wow it looks great and Oz is so cute!!

Thanks =)

Well, he got over it pretty quick I'd say

Yeah, considering he flapped madly to get away if I tried to hold him close to it. Guess I just had to leave him alone and let him approach on his own =P

Net maker, not my calling. I never realised how hard this was. My net is ugly, and the holes probably too big uh? Could they be potentally dangerous?

(watching him closely right now)

aww hes so cute and looks like he likes it a lot!!

Yeah, I figured it'd take a while till he touched it, but I guess not =P

He did stare at me the whole time I was working, for both the gym and the net. It's kinda hard to concentrate when there's a bird climbing on top of your head every 5 minutes xD

good job! I don't think the hole being to big can be dangerous. if anything it would just take longer to climb XD

Oh my gosh, your bird is so stinking cute!!! I love the play gym!! I'm going to have to get my husband to make my Rory something like that!!! Thanks for sharing the pictures!!!!

Thanks guys =) It was a lot more work than I expected, especially with the net, but he seems to really like it so I'd say it was well worth the effort and blisters

This one is a very lucky 'tiel here:-)

The playstand is pretty cool!!! And I think the net is just perfect! Oz is already climbing on it in the one pic. It's so great that Oz warmed up to the playstand so quickly - but hey, it's irresistible... what bird wouldn't want to hang out on it!

Thanks for sharing all the pics... you really put some hard work and time in... but watching your Oz enjoy himself must be pretty neat... he's one of the cutest cockatiels I've seen.

Does he talk yet?

Not just yet, he's about 4 months old but I think he might be trying. He seems to be babbling, but I don't know if parrots go trough a babbling stage. He really seems to like the whistle I do for him everyday thought. If I make it while he's babbling, he responds with chirps that actually have a similar beat.

Yeah, it took him all of 2 minutes to start climbing once I installed it. His favorite seems to be the swing thought.

Oh, just 4 months old... I thought he looked young. My lory began talking at 3 months old - I guess she lived up to her pet trade species name "Chattering Lory" lol. But some of the things she was saying did sound like babbling in the beginning, and when I figured out what she was trying to say, I would say the word or phrase to her slowly, and that helped her say it better.

I have some friends who have cockatiels and they love whistling. Mine loves whistling too, she will imitate a tune that she hears whistled, and make up her own tunes. Birds are definitely into rhythm... if I start snapping my fingers, Sweet Pea will start dancing and making clicking noises, but if I loose the rhythm, she stops right away...

I had lovebirds for a few years, and they LOVED their swings. I enjoyed watching them swing on their swings too! Sweet Pea does not like swings of any type, bummer. But she will get her hanging toys swinging and swaying in her cage, and then she will sway her body in rhythm with them... sometimes she will be hanging upside down from the top of her cage right next to a hanging toy and do this... it's pretty comical.

Yep, still a young one. Just finished giving him a good misting and boy did he love it xD He's preening now. I take a little time each day to try to teach him whistling/talking.

What has me worried is that I'm moving back to my parents house next month (I'm 20 and I can take the classes I want back in my hometown now so there's really no point in paying for an apartment while I finish my studies) but my brother and father each have a dog, my own cat still lives there (he doesn't worry me too much thought, he's pretty old and lazy so I know he won't actively seek Oz out) and my sister has a cat too... A little hunter that loves to jump everything that moves... =I I'm gonna have to watch him like an hawk on his out of cage time...

At least, I got my mom to agree on using stainless steel cookware and no air fresheners so that's one less thing to worry about at least...

Several years ago, I was sitting on my outdoor patio with my lovebird on my shoulder and one of the neighborhood cats swooped in like lightning, snatched the bird from my shoulder and took off with it. Never did find it. So please be careful around those cats when you move back home with Oz.

What a pretty Cinnamon Pearl Whiteface Cockatiel!!!! Very nice play gym there!!! :)
