The Rickeybird, 40-year-old Patagonian Conure
What's this little lovely? A real species or just one of those 'artistic license' creations? Thanks for looking.

Hmm...Maybe a cowbird, but that seems like a stretch...Let me think...

Likely not a 'New World" bird as much of the artwork from that period was greatly influenced by Asia art. When based on North American subjects, the art tended to be more specific to a what the artist saw everyday, i.e. crows tended to looking like crows, etc.
Just my two cents, not an art expert.

the grass looks a bit like eucalyptus or bamboo

Could be a (very) stylised Collared/Ringnecked Turtledove?

Thanks, folkseszszsz!

I'm on my way to Google some of those birds and plants and art periods. There's nothin' like a fun little research project on a(nother) rainy Cleveland day.

Very heavy indeed. I think the side(s) are easily 3/4" thick.

BTW, if you have similar, don't toss it or break it. This one sat in our garage for decades until a few years ago when an antiquer-friend urged us to have it appraised and treat it right. That appraisal place estimated possible auction value at 500 and offered me 350... delivered. I "promoted" it from garage junk to living room occasional table immediately! No fermenting in its future!

Let me post to some local groups and see what they say..

If the tail weren't so long, I'd said a pied imperial pigeon like another member posted recently.

I Googled mightily...
Cowbird, eucalyptus, bamboo (thanks, Noodles).
Asian/1880s birds, watercolors, etc.(Sailboat)
Collared/ringnecked turtledove (Betrisher)
Pied imperial pigeon but for tail (Charmed)

All things considered, I'm gonna go with some kind of Oriental Pied Hawk-tailed Turtlepigeon. lolololol

The Pied Pigeon was actually pretty persuasive, and did fit with Mr. Boat's idea. I had been thinking about doves for a while.

Thanks, y'all. This was fun!

I love any excuse to Google.

Yes, friends, weather is great so I was out and about, coffee at Mom's Diner, with pie of Apple a la mode variety. :)
