Hi! I have am looking for a blue, pallid blue or parblue (turquoise) quaker. I have not found any for sale in my area. As I've looked for a breeder on Bird Breeder.com, I found the birds to be from $300-500.00 with shipping between $100-200.00 on either United or Delta. Problem now is which Breeder and from where? What do I ask or need in the contract? What should my expectations be? I'd prefer to find one in rescue but this will be my shoulder buddy, my personal pet.....so I want the right one....
I would love to see a permanent thread on evaluating breeders and maybe rescues also....and what to watch for...questions to ask...etc....I'm totally lost on how to proceed.....While I can do this, I'd prefer to make an informed decision....

What I personally would look out for is their reputation level. Birdbreeders has the star rating, and even though it may not be 100% safe and accurate all the time, in many cases you will learn something about the seller/breeder.

Birds travel rather well on a plane. If you have a major hub near you, and can have a bird shipped non stop, that would be preferable, IMO. If birdy needs to switch planes once, I'd still do it (HAVE done it in the past with great success). Outside temperature needs to be taken into consideration when shipping birds, especially if there is a layover somewhere.

You would want the breeder/seller to give you a certain amount of time to have the bird fully vetted and be found free of any disease/illnesses.

Talk to the breeder on the phone, ask many questions, try and get a feel for him/her. IMO a good breeder will take the time to listen to you and talk to you about any and all concerns and questions you may have. :)

GOOD LUCK!!! :D

I've just about given up....lol The first blue quaker was a heartbreaker and now the tiel can't be adopted for 3 months....if ever....praying for the birdies there..... but jeeeez.....

Oh no..you are NOT giving up, Jo. Not EVER! :) There IS the right birdy out there for you, I promise! It can sometimes take some time for you to find the right one, or for the right one to find himself into your heart, but it WILL happen!!

Please keep your chin up.

HUGS!!!!

Well, it is sad...the rescue birds weren't overly fond of me except the tiel that wants attention from everybody...(but does need a good home....) and now it's another 3months on top of waiting and searching....and now the blue quaker that I was actively looking into is in a holding pattern for an employee.....wow....

The lady I got my cinammon green quaker from a few weeks ago was about to have some blues ready. I think they are $300. Don't know if she ships or not. She is in Huntsville, AL. Her email is [email protected] good luck!

Birds of Paradise Sanctuary and Rescue. They have many to pick from and located in Palmetto , Fl

Not sure where you are in MI but there are some at Royal Pet, in royal oak mi, and Chirping Friends of Mt Clemens Mi.
The Royal Oak pet shop has them for sure I saw them. :)
It's called Royal Tropical. Right on Woodward avenue. They breed them (as well as many others) there.

No Quakers in the Detroit, MI area... Roads were poor so didn't go to meet the Rubino Rosella "Rhubarb. So, still birdless.

Birds of Paradise didn't have any ready to rescue. LBroach in AL had 3, now 2 :D She also has one pallid blue available. She sent me the cutest video, came highly recommended from JRobison. Pleasant, informational on the phone.....TY for the help and I'm sure to get a healthy bird.....The breeder is very caring about the whole process. I did have her laughing at my exuberance tho!!!! Yay! I'm getting a fid!!!!

Great! Congratulations :) I'm glad you found what you've been looking for. The palid blues look pretty in pics. The Quakers are illegal to sell and keep here in CA, but that doesn't mean I've never seen one out here from time to time :52: Best wishes when he/she comes.

IM glad you found what you were looking for! :DFor future reference there is a bird store in livionia where I got my sun conure from, but I also go there to get everyones wings and nails done. But they always have quakers, and many other birds and cages and toys, I love going there its just so far away
