Bird bands? what do they mean?

there are initials, F, and 058 on my conures band. what do there represent?

Only those?

An abandoned bird I rescued, Tybbi, had 2 letters and 3 numbers. The letters could mean the state, and the 3 numbers could be anything (type of bird, the ID of the bird hatched at the time the band was put on it (yours was the 58th bird hatched that year), etc)...

My other conures all have datecode information and the state it was raised in.

A previous parrot had a grouping of 3 letters, a grouping of 2 letters, and a 3-digit number.

My vet stated that there is not real national standard. Bands can be given out in large batches, with small breeder farms having their own ID standards.

Others undoubtedly have more detailed information, but while the band has usefulness, the lack of consistency in aviculture was eye-opening...
