Hi there. I'm a former lurker on the forum but have now fully registered. I have a 5 year old blue and gold macaw named Lucy and a 10 year old Eclectus named Jennifer. We have had both of these girls for about 5 years now, and have been part of Lucy's life since just after she was born, while she was being hand fed and cared for by the breeder.
Jennifer came to us just before Lucy came home to live with us after "failing" in the breeding program. She constantly beat up and abused her boyfriend, so the breeder had to remove her from the program. About a year ago we were back there having her nails and wings done and her old boyfriend was there visiting too. It was funny to see them together. They CLEARLY recognized each other and she had her pretty soft eyes going, but he wasn't going to fall for that again, ha ha. He was a darling, super sweet.
Jennifer is now my cuddle monkey, she adores me and lets me pick her up at any time (it's been about a year since she's drawn blood) and just today during a nail and wing session at the breeders the breeder was amazed at how easily I could handle her, just lifting her from any position without effort or hesitation. She still growls now and again to show her power, but we have an understanding.
Lucy ... ahh, Lucy. Nothing quite like a "toddler" Macaw. She's HILARIOUS and wonderful and we adore her. She's why I registered today. I have a question about keeping the "monkey's floor area clean" (she likes to throw food at us to let us know she'd prefer something different, or just to get our attention.
