I buy a mix of birdseed for my Alex, it contains cracked corn, wheat, sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, barley and oats.
I'm pretty sure that he only picks out the sunflower seeds and the safflower seeds.
I know that sunflower seeds can be a bit too fatty if fed too much, but I was wondering of it is the same as with safflower?

We do also give him fruit and veg in the morning. And he always has access to pellets in his cage.

Excess Safflower isn't good for him either. IF you can cut the level down that would be a lot better for him. It's good you offer fresh fruits and veggies along with pellets so he'll get all the nutrition he needs so you just need to cut the Sunflower and Safflower seeds down.

A sprout mix would probably be healthier than that... even if it contained sunflower seeds.

Pellets would be a better than seeds.

Just feed in smaller quantity, that's what I do if they're picking out stuff :p
I feed mine just a little bit of a seed mix made by a woman on the coast, it's called birdzone, just if you don't know it =)

Thanks, i didnt actually know it, but i have now looke dit up.
i usually go to breeders choice seeds as theyre only about 1km away from where i live but ill try this new one for a change.

I also usually alternate between their mix of sprouted seed and soaked seed.
the sprouted is very similar to the dry mix but the soaked also has beans, peas and chick peas.
he really likes it but went off it for a while so i stopped feeding it to him for about a week or so

I just use seeds for training otherwise My IRN is feed pellets, fruit and vegies. once a week I give him meat and cheese in small amounts.
