Zilla is in a dome top cage which I love, but it does have it's draw backs.

I don't want to go smaller, and some of the play top cages I have looked at seem too dark with that solid top on them. I don't want him to feel like he lives in a cave! Not that he will spend all that much time inside unless he chooses to.

I think Zilla's cage is something like 32" X 26" X 56" interior size. I think that would be a good size for an ekkie, right?

What cages do you all have your ekkies in????

Ekko's cage is a playtop, and we don't use the tray on the top.. His is 40X30X48 (Interior dimensions).
He utilizes every bit of space in it as well:) I always get the biggest possible, but a lot depends on how much out of cage time they have as well.

I don't like the play tops, even though some of mine had them I took them off. Eclectus can get cage possessive so I just avoid that all together by taking them from their cage and using play stands.:)

I am lucky as Ekko does not have that issue. He also has a playstand, and uses both:)

I have both play stands and jungle gyms, so he would get a lot of out of cage time on those.

I have my Ekkie in a double macaw cage with the center partition removed. He gets fed on one side and most of his toys are on the other side. Keeps the food from the toys because he makes a mess when he eats.lol

I'm so glad you're thinking seriously about getting the ekkie. Somehow I feel any bird would be safer with you and some of the other devoted members here. Some people might not take ownership of such a sensitive animal quite as seriously as you all do. They might not bother to fully research online and understand how to care for the parrot either. It might sound biased, but I feel like his life couldn't possibly be as good without you. It's clear that you really take good care of your parrot. I hope you get this one before someone else does. You could keep the parrots totally separated until you have the all clear from your vet and wash your hands after handling each parrot. Surely preventative measures will keep them both well?

I use 40 x 30 playtops for all my amazon and larger birds.

I started off with a playtop and quickly switched over to dometops (every single one of my cages) as IMO they allow for more headroom and more possibilities with toys/décor. :)
