Robin and I joined last year and we got lots of great info from your site but we never posted. I knew when he got sick last week, I needed to get him to the Vet. However, the GI infection took him from us. It was a horrible week and this past Saturday we went and got a new Conure, Brax from the pet store. He's really shy and timid but he's bonding with all of us today. We'll change some of our routines so he's not as dependent on us. He has a different squeak, which is really cute. I'll try to post a new pic.

Welcome to the forum... officially. I am so sorry for your recent loss. :(

I am so sorry for your loss of Robin:(

I'm glad you decided to post, and a belated welcome to you.
I am looking forward to seeing the picture of Brax, what a cute name!

I'm so sorry to hear about your Robin :(. Was he a Sun like Brax? I also have a male named Robin.
We'd love to see pics of Brax, and hope to hear updates on your progress with him!

I started an album of Brax. I haven't figured out how to put a picture in thread. Thanks for all the kind words.

Thanks for all the kind words! You are all very active on the site, it's great. Time heal all wounds. A Bald Eagle flew over my car today and it was like Robin sending me a signal, sounds crazy right...the WOW factor was so cool. Brax is loving our family, we call him Robin's brother, they both came from a breeder in NH. Brax has a girlie voice, it's cute. He began stepping up on command yesterday, I was so proud. One of these days I'll figure out how to start a new string.

Robin, I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your sun conure two weeks ago. My first pair of sun conures were named Rusty and Robin. I know how you feel -- I just lost my Goffin three days ago and I'm just devasted. After 30 years with birds in my life, it never gets easier losing one. My heart really does go out to you and I guess we're now kindred spirits in a way.

Robin was only two and 1/2. I thought he'd live for another 20+ years. I cried for 5 days straight, couldn't pull myself together. My husband wasn't back from Vegas 6 hours and he had to go to the pet store! I never knew Birds were so lovable, dedicated and devoted. I turned to the forum because I could here my friends and family saying, she's crying over a bird! I called the Petloss hotline at Tufts University as well! I'm going to try and NOT spoil Baby Brax so much...haha. No hanging off my shoulder 6 hours a day, driving around in the car with me, picking and dropping off kids everywhere! They are our children that never leave home!

It is so hard to lose a parrot! I too lost my Jenday Conure last year. It was so hard! You are right that so many people don't understand. No one understands unless they have had a parrot. They are not "just a bird". They are a part of our families! I am sorry for your loss! Congrats on your new baby.

Hi there and welcome! I am so sorry for your loss! I don't even want to imagine losing either one of my fids, so my heart goes out to you!

Congrats on the new baby though, and I for one think you should spoil him rotten. As I am sure you saw with Robin, it is that close bond, the little funny things they do when they are with us etc that makes them so special to us. Give him as much time hanging off you, driving in your car etc as possible, lol! I for one love having a live birdy "brooch" hanging off my shoulder wherever I go! Just be sure to harness train!

Welcome to the forum. Although it's sad to have lost Robin, I hope little Brax helps with the grief.

So sorry to hear of Robin's passing. I've lost pets ( 15y0 Shih Tzu and 9yo Orange Wing Amazon) and its so heart breaking. I'm new to the Parrot Forums also, but want to welcome and thank you for sharing. If its now to difficult Id like to know more about this GI infection, such as what alerted you, how your bird was behaving, and the treatment that was tried. I've learned a lot from the experienced ones on the site, but I think we newbies have some knowledgeable stuff to offer too.

Hi Miloslave, yes little Braxy is a quieter and HATES the car! We would take Robin to Dunkin Donuts on Saturday and Sunday mornings and wait on the steering wheel for my husband to get our weekend coffee! There were always on-lookers and people taking pictures of him! We'd drive 2 hours to ski and Robin would be looking out the window entertaining all the other cars and people would be laughing at us. During the summer Robin would come to our boat on weekends and sleep in the window watching for us to come back from walks and dinner, very spoiled. I'll post Braxy's modified playground which was Robins! Strudel, Braxy is like having a new baby with a whole new personality, like my two kids :) LadiDy, I know Robin was sick when he didn't do his morning potty on his playground. I went to check his bed-cage and I knew from the forum readings that there was something wrong. I took him immediately to the vet. Had she given him antibiotics right then I think he would have gotten better. The following day he was so lethargic. His test showed a raised kidney level. There were so many things I wished I stayed on top of. Robin liked to wander. I was giving him baths and I think it was too cold for them. It's really cold here and I did go thru the household chemicals and got rid of aerosols, Teflon pans if they were, I wasn't sure so I got rid of them. When anyone cooks we're running the kitchen fan for fumes, so many little things that come into play. I'll post new Braxy pics soon!
