Jasper just turned 7 mos old and he's been home with me now almost 4 mos. The last few days I have noticed that he seems more confident and wanting to explore the rest of the apartment. Both my birds' cages are in the spare bedroom where I have my computer and spend most of my time. I have a java table stand in the kitchen where I take Jasper if I'm prepping everyone's breakfast or doing dishes. The other room he is familiar with is the bathroom for showers.
He doesn't much like it when I leave the room and if I don't take him he will try to follow. He's clipped (it was a store policy for safety reasons) so he usually winds up landing somewhere in the living room. This happened the other day and I gave him a couple moments before going in there to "rescue" him. He was across the room looking around and started towards me when I spoke to him but then decided there were interesting things to look at in this room. So I watched him as he waddled around on the floor, checked out the tv stand (whoa what is that waaay up there), waddled over to the chair to have a look at the basket of cat toys (most of em fuzzy icky).
He then did this in the kitchen when I had him out there while I was doing dishes/prepping brekkie. He tried to get over to the sink but landed on the floor. I picked him up and took him over there. What had gotten his attention where the two dragon windchimes hanging over the sink. I let him play with those a little bit before taking him back to his stand.
I'm going to have to be cautious of this now, when his wings grow out enough to get any serious lift or able to hold him aloft. I usually have a good eye on all of them and don't let them get into a situation where they could get into mischief. I'm just amazed by this sudden curiosity. I guess now I truly have a toddler in the house and have to keep things where he won't be able to satisfy his curiosity unattended.
