:green:Hi
I have a blue fronted amazon. I had him for 5 mths now and he is 12 mths old. When he is in his cage you can scrath him all over and he loves it. When he comes out of his cage all he wants to do is play with me and he plays ruff does not draw blood. But very hard pressure when he has your fingers. He is very friendly and loves to play, and loves to be with me all the time. But he does not like me to scrath him out of the cage. We let him out of his cage all day and back in his cage at 5 pm to eat and go to sleep. Is it nomall for him not to let me scrath him out of his cage.

Chaz Thank you.

He's still testing you give it time he will come around.

If I had to guess, not seeing body posture, I'd say he's probably wound up and wanting to play outside the cage...

Give it time, he's young. Young zons have very short attention spans...

Blue fronts have a mind of their own. They do what they want when they want. Mine is nearly 9 years old now still young, but took 8 to 10 months to come around when I got it. Now we are best friends, and I can read it very well, they'll let you know when it's scratch time and play time.

Cuddle time is on the shoulder right up against me sometimes grabbing my chin with it's beak to turn my head towards it to give me a big smooch.
But I have never been bitten by my BFA.

Welcome to the farm. I have quite a bit to say just don't have time to respond. I'll respond this afternoon when I get home.

Hey Chaz, welcome to the forum. That sounds like very normal behavior given his age and environment. Sounds like you're doing a great job interacting with him. In the wild he would be playing with other birds much the same as he's playing with you now. The other birds would let him know if he bit them too hard. He doesn't know how strong he is and how much force is enough. You have to show him> tell him when he bites too hard. BUT also do your part and don't get him all wound up. They have a tendency to escalate play into war. Be the big bird and notice when he's starting to get out of control. He can be your best buddy but you need to show him how to live in our world.
BTW,, don't worry about the "petting outside the cage", before long you'll be asking how to make him stop. LOL You should read though some of the older threads in this section, ask questions if you have them.
