Beginner Bird

I am curious...why do you not want to buy from a breeder? As someone else said, pet store birds are often highly over-priced and not well socialized, and once you leave the store, the store is done with you. A reputable breeder will ensure you have all the information you need, will follow up with you and will be happy to answer questions even after you and birdy go home. The birds are also far more likely to be properly socialized.

There are exceptions, of course, but I believe those exceptions are birds from smaller pet stores, not the big "super-store" type stores like PetSmart, etc.

You might want to re-think your stance on that and, if not, I am curious as to why...

Yup just go the the forums section and look up the birds you're interested in, and go down the line, and you'll find plenty of pics and some vids, look for the little paper clip.
As you can see, bird people are very passionate and protective. :) definately do your research, and I'm sure you'll find the right companion for you. Good luck

What ever you choose, make sure it's something you will want to have forever. There are a lot of species that are "easier " that you could get as a first bird. Parrotlets, green cheek conures, cockatiels, love birds, maybe even something like an alexandrine or sun conure depending on what you are looking for and what you can provide. What kind of bird do you want to have eventually? Time, cost, space, noise level, landlord and family opinions are all things that should be taken into consideration as well. Don't hesitate to ask questions that's what forums are for! :)

I have to say or add here, Parrotlets although cute, small, and are relatively quiet (females are' or at lease mine is,) easy to clean up after etc, are a lil bird with a big ol personality like an amazon. At 4 months, the sweet lil baby turns in to Godzilla for a while, with a beak, and they can bite very hard for no reason and become very territorial of their cages. On the flip, when they aren't crabby lil vultures, they can be very sweet, love to sit and preen your hair, puff up and love to be scratched. :09:

You really have to work with a Parrotlet. Target training, step ups, anything that will create and maintain close bond or they revert back to their wild state of being.
