Rosie the Green Winged Macaw
I went to Bird Paradise in Burlington, NJ today to get Rosie some food and visit the birds. They had the most beautiful harlequin macaw there on consignment. She is two years old and her family is moving across the country and can't take her. Her name is Quinn and she has been there for about three months. She is a bit beaky which I guess scares most people. I took her around the store and hung out with her in the family room. Although she bluffs a bit and does grab with her beak, she doesn't apply any pressure. Such a sweet girl, she gave lots of kisses and just needs a good home.

I thought I would attach some pics I took just in case anyone in the area is looking for a new flock member.

I hope I am posting this in the right area.

On a side note, I just found out that Bird Paradise has a whole bunch of consignment birds not out in the store. I think they have another Harlequin, an amazon, a cockatoo and a slew of smaller birds. Might be a good thing to know since you need to ask to see a lot of the consignment birds.

No room for another? ;)

I'd love to go to a proper bird store, knowing they're proper cared for, getting to interact with them all etc!

If Rosie wouldn't be mad and my husband was on board, it would be a no brainier. Unfortunately, Rosie goes bonkers whenever she sees me interacting with another bird, :(.

What a beautiful bird:)

So beautiful! I love harlequins, I think they have some of the best personalities. It comes from the Greenwing in them. You get the prettiness of a Catalina without the occasionally naked face (sorry not a fan of Scarlets in looks or personality) or the high strung and erratic behavior of a scarlet.

Someday I would love to own a Hyacinth. Since this is pretty much impossible for me due to their price, a harlequin or possible Greenwing or blue an gold is close second.... In that order. :)

I hate to report, but I went to bird paradise about 2 weeks ago and Quinn is still there. I tried REALLLLYYYYYY hard to get her to atleast let me take her out of the cage, ive gone back 3 times but shes just brutal. The lady that owns her actually works there, and she cant even get her out of the cage, and the minute she did Quinn bit her on her lips. Didn't do much harm but did cut her up a little. I feel terrible, she's been in that cage with minimal daily interaction, the lady that owns her says she has no time for her. is there anyone out there willing to give this bird a personality make over? I feel terrible that she's been there so long, and im seriously contemplating bringing her home anyway but i already have two macaws and im not sure Quinn will fit in with my dogs and birds.

I went to Bird Paradise yesterday and found out that Quinn is going to her new home this weekend! My heart is so happy for her. :)

While we were there my daughter fell in love with sweetest baby red lored amazon. She called Daddy but he was adamant, NO MORE PETS!! :(

ZoeyHarley - I know which bird you are referring to, it was Xena's bird. She may be named Quinn as well? I'm not sure. She has been trying to rehome her off and on for about a year. She can be tough, but i made friends with her. never held her though bc Xena had told me she could be rough. I spoke with her yesterday and she said her bird has found a new home. :). I'm sorry you had such a rough time. She has been returned a couple of times, poor baby.

The Quinn I was referring to is not that bird. I didn't realize they had the same name. Her owners are moving to California and can't take her. Very sweet girl. Thrilled she found a home.

They just got a blue and gold on consignment, but that is the only large macaw they have now. :)

Bird Paradise is on my "to do" list of places to visit. I've never been. But, I'm sure with my (lack of) willpower, someone would be coming home with me!

It is a really awesome place to visit. We love it there. They are getting a bunch of new babies in. There were a ton of amazon, cockatoo and grey babies. They are getting blue and gold and greenwing babies in as well. It is so easy to be tempted to take a new family member home. Especially since they have a huge room with couches and perches where you can sit and cuddle with the birds as long as you want. So you fall in love. Very smart on their part. ;)

Oh c'mon....do some eye lash flicking, sad puppy eyes, pull out ALL the tricks, maybe Daddy will change his mind. ;)

I so wish and so does Ashley! She already named him , Harvey. :). She wanted to go see him today but I can tell there is no way my husband is going to budge. So I didn't want her to get more attached. But oh my, he was soooo gentle and cute! Sweetest guy there.

There's got to be a way to gently change his mind. :( How about you take him with you and have him watch how Ashley & Harvey interact? A little Red Lored wouldn't take up much room, they are SUCH sweethearts, SO gorgeous....ugh...I'll have my fingers crossed for a miracle for you and Ashley (and Harvey)

Thanks Wendy! Ashie can usually get him to do whatever she wants. Which is why we have Rosie, Ashie cried until he caved. But he is still annoyed that we have a bird, even though he begrudgingly likes her. (He isn't a huge animal lover...in his mind one is enough) I came down today and he had already taken her out to play on her tree and gave her treats. So he has come to terms that Rosie is a part of the Fitz Funny Farm, but that's it. I just think in his mind it is out of the question. :(
