...We can all thank AL <Wrench13> for this! :p Might as well start Beeb's own thread too

Not much to post yet..except he has an appointment with his doctor at 11am this morning. I seriously doubt that there is anything wrong with him..he sounds like he is a very happy boy! As soon as I got up this morning <and EVERY morning> he launches into his happy dance for a good 30 minutes, twittling, whistling, talking, and just making all sorts of happy noises lol.

He certainly is a joy to have around :grey::)...love him sooo much :D
I'll let ya'all know what I find out from his visit.

Jim

Looking forward to hearing what the vet has to say, Jim... as well as following BB's ongoing chronicles on this thread!

Re: Back from the Doctors..

...Just got in. I have been taking my birdies to the Kensington BIRD and Animal Hospital < Birds are their specialty :D> since day one with my babies. Dr. Gidding has long since retired, and two young ladies have taken over his practice. Both girls are in their mid 30's and very knowledgeable on the avian clan.

This was BB's first trip traveling <except for the trip home when I got him> and when I put him in his travel carrier,he was quite nervous, pacing back and forth. He soon calmed down and started to call for me,I told him all was good we're going for a ride .

At the office I let him out as we waited < yesterday when I made the appointment they told me they were swamped..no one else was there! what a crock!>
He got out and started up with his rendition of Andy Griffith..BB Good Boy?..What are you doin'?.. I could hear the receptionist giggle lol.

Sooooo...we saw Dr. Nancy..Weighed the Beebs..he is at 88g's <3g's heavier since his first visit> and his general condition was excellent :D
I told her of my concerns, and she spread open one of his arms, you could still see the "bars" on a few of his sleeves..She pointed out "See? these are his baby clothes <she used "feathers"> she did point out that he had 3 "new" sleeves growing, same with his other arm..even his tail had a few "bars".
So she said not to worry,he is definitely still molting. Some take longer than others.

Now I know we have had heated discussions about this..to clip..or not to clip..Nancy "suggested" that I let him grow his first set of adult clothes,so at least he can learn to fly.
Honestly...I WANT to see that little boy buzz around some. Later if I think it wasn't a good idea <i.e. him getting himself in trouble> I will then have him clipped.
She also trimmed his fingernails.

I asked about if there was a 24/7 emergency vet around, and she gave me a paper with a list on it. I was relived to see there is a 24/7 vet just 10 minutes away from me. Their "exotic" vet isen't there on weekends but is on call..and the other Drs are being trained in "avian emergency care"
until an avian doc can be reached.

So all in all, everything turned out great. Beebs is a happy/healthy little boy,and he did pretty well in the car. :D

That's great news! :D I was going to say yesterday that there is noway he's even close to finished with molting he's less than a year old... a baby. He'll be flying in no time... except I would never clip a bird permanently (for their health, plus clipped birds are just as prone to getting into trouble or seriously injured)... I bird proof the house... not bird proof the bird. It wasn't difficult for me to train Coconut some places are off limit... as crazy active as he is (he NEVER sits still!)... him being unclipped has not been an issue at all. If he were unable to fly to release energy and get proper exercise I cannot even tell you how bad it would be.... for me (I would go nuts) and for him.

I put beautiful palm tree stencils on all windows... works great.

Juliet..I have curtains and blinds in all of my windows,so I am not worried that he'll freak out and fly into one.

I'm glad to hear that BB has a clean bill of health, Jim! And it sounds like he'll be flying about sooner than you know it! I would definitely suggest that you do keep him flighted at least until he becomes an experienced flier. (You seem to be leaning in this direction, anyway, so perhaps I'm preaching to the choir. Lol!) His fledging process was interrupted by the premature clipping before you got him, but perhaps he still has the opportunity to play catch up.

Is he doing any targeting, yet?

Congrats on the new android! :)

I just switched from at&t to Sprint as they are much cheaper and I got the new "Samsung Note 7" android yesterday... it is AMAZING! I LOVE the phone... eager to test out the camera on this thing hehe....

Sounds like you had a really good visit! What a relief to find that his molting seems to be going as it should and that the new feathers should be in soon =)

I was surprised to see a lot of his feathers still had "bars" across them <indicating that those are his baby clothes>.
Yep...he does have a few adult ones coming in.

On a funny side here..he was on my shoulder when we went into the exam room, talking to the vet tech..and when I tried to get him on my hand to put him on the scale..he was LOUDLY cussin' up a storm in protest! Had the tech in stitches lol. Silly little boy lol :grey: :D

Re: BB meets my brother..

David stopped over to help me figure out a video problem I am having with a 30 year old full size VHS camcorder..
We were in the living room hooking it up to the tv and I let the little boy out.
Some one can tell that David and I are definitely bro's and I guess Beeb's could too. He went right to my brother, climbed his sleeve to his shoulder, and immediately started talking in his ear lol "BB good boy?" "What'cha doing?"..."BB good boy?" had my brother laughing and smiling :D
WOW! he has such a small voice! But he sure talks clearly!
Then..to BB's nature,he proceeded to fight with David's ear and nibble it,much to David's objection lol.

For a first meeting it went well! ;)

Jim

Jim, you just reminded me of a long-lost memory, and a happy one!
Once when my Mother visited us in New Mexico, she met the Rickeybird for the first time.
We were sitting on the bed in his room talking. He was on the cage-top but suddenly flew to her shoulder. We both froze. He looked right at her and yelled "Hello, Gail!"
We were both speechless and somehow very touched.
Thanks for bringing that moment back.
