I Sun Conure who hatched March 23. 2004. I adopted her on May 8, 2005
I had a Quaker Parrot named Nikki who lived for 19 years
I grew up with Budgerigars named Screech, Zoar and Blue Baby
My Sun has lived in a cage with 1/2 bar spacing for like 18 years. I just read that the ideal for suns is 5/8 to 3/4 all over the internet. It happened. Showe ip in an article I was reading about cages. I decided to look for more sources and most pointed to that. Do my natural reaction was like “Dude I have b en doing it wrong the whole time.

Her night and travel cage is 3/4 inch. I hope that’s okay. I am like second guessing myself. Nothing on the internet is consistent. It is to annoying.

Maybe I'm about to be schooled, but I don't think there's any harm in bar spacing being too small? Assuming the cage dimensions are big enough and the bars themselves are appropriately thick and the bird is able to climb, it's harmless. Like, an african grey with 1/2'' bar spacing would probably struggle to climb but a conure wouldn't have issues.

The only time I think you need to be really precise about bar spacing is making sure that the bar spacing isn't TOO BIG, since you don't want a bird getting their head stuck.

If I'm wrong I'd love to know why but I don't really think you need a new cage.
