Hi,

I just got my new baby Fri. night. Ive been trying to search his band number and I cant come up with anything. I got him at a pet store and im just curious about his info which the store didnt have much of...hmmmm. I actually tried to look up a number for a member on here yest but it was a weird series of letters and numbers so couldnt find anything. Mango's seemed a bit more the normal band I have seen but when I search it nothing comes up. All I can get is he came from FL. Does anyone have a better know how of looking up these band numbers...Mango's number is...BR FL 1872. Thx for any help.

The BR part may be the breeders initials, or the initials of the name of their aviary.

I have a Dusky Conure with a band that says BR FL 1258. I have no clue what any of it means. I also have a Sun Conure with a band that also begins with BR FL (he's snoozing right now so I don't want to wake him up to read the numbers) his aren't 4 numbers long though. I think his may even be just 2 numbers. This whole banding thing is just confusing.

My sun conure's leg band is BR FL 09 777. I dont know why he has 5 numbers and my dusky only has 4.

If you want to research bird bands you'll need to research band manufactures ,they can tell you if they made the band or not.The manufactures will have to contact the person they sold the bands to and give them your contact info,It's then up to the breeder you decide weither or not to contact you.The manufactures will not give out the breeder info so don't even ask. Do not expect to hear back from the breeder because so many are tired of being beat up by ARFs that they shy of public contact , or they may be out of business.I would guess that i get real info on maybe 10% of the bands i research, and if a USDA band forget it.If your band is an open band then it could be placed on your bird at any time,Say a bird broker, someone who buys baby birds and raises them for the pet trade,The case for most birds in Petco,Petsmart etc. If your band is a ring type band then it's placed by the breeder at an age of around 10 days before the feet get too big.Good luck i'm waiting for word on a band now for some one on this forum now,and another forum ,we'll see if we get the call back.
Another approach is go to sites like birdbreeders.com and look for breeders by states/by species and see if you can find an aviary or breeder that matches your band. Most breeders have contact info listed there. As Oled said you can also contact the AFA but i use their bands and they all say AFA on them.Good Luck but don't hold your breath.
