Hey everyone I will hopefully be adopting a green cheek conure next week and was just wondering if bamboo is ok to use for perches? Also is it ok for them to play with plastic straws? I saw a video of a lady who had a green cheek conure and she made toys out of straws for him, which he really seemed to love. Im just worried if he would shred them and swallow the plastic or something:52: Does anyone use these things for their conures? :green2:

My birds loooooovvve both straws and bamboo. I was nervous about them swallowing things too, but apparently they're pretty good about distiguishing food from toys.

I don't use straws but I do use bamboo for my birds and, as long as it's not treated with any type of chemical, it's safe enough.

Both are ok for birds. My Rosie does not like straws. I have a bamboo perch she sits on freqently.

Mishka loves playing with straws. I collect about 20, tie them in a big knot.
She spends hours trying to get them apart.
Her favorite perch is a bamboo one.

I love the idea of making the straws into a big knot! Maybe ill incorporate some food in there too, make a foraging toy :) That is if he likes straws :p
