Bad behavior Amazon

I just adopted a 22 year old Blue Front Amazon from a rescue. I’ve only had him 5 days today. My Quaker wants to be friends with him but he’s not having it and tries to hurt her. When I get her away from him he tells me I’m bad. Today he wants nothing to do with me and seems angry because I kept him from what seemed like trying to kill her yesterday. I feel or felt he had come a long way in a short time here but today it seems we are going backwards. He lunged at my face this morning, of course I backed away and told him he was being bad and said we love and not to act ugly. I know we have a long way to go because I don’t know anything about his history nor did the rescue other than he wasn’t being cared for. How do I correct his behavior towards my Quaker? I don’t want him hurting her.

I have a variety of sizes of parrots. I myself never have them out together unless they are the same species/size, and I know they are bonded. Some parrots don’t like each other, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

There are a lot of Amazon owners that will chime in specifically for that portion of this. I’ve handled them but in a shelter setting, and briefly.

Dont move so quickly. Let him acclimatize more before you push him into new relationships with your birds and your family. Let HIM dictate the speed of assimilation, and not the speed of your expectations. Moving too fast can set things up for long term friction. The birds should be out of cage separately at this point ( the 'zon maybe not for a week or 2).

As an amazon owner I can tell you my amazons hate my cockatiels.
Every so often one cockatiel will land on the side of an Amazon cage.
I have to race to the cage and get to the cockatiel before the amazon does. They really hate em.

That’s not universal. I have heard of Amazon’s being friendly with cockatiels. You never can tell how two different parrots will react to each other

Sun did not like Bill when my parents got a second amazon. Bill tried but Sun would heve nothing to do with him. They lived in side by side cages for 20 years and Sun never seemed to care.
