Well I have done it. Made the decision to add another parrot. I struggled with this decision of what kind of parrot, I want to find a rescued parrot, Oh no none of the rescues want to work with me because I'm too far away, maybe these are signs to stay status quo.
I began working overtime once a week and on those days my friend would come down bringing Valentino's friend and socialize him. Valentino likes her and she took care of him for 5 weeks for me while I was in transition. I come home to a more relaxed calm parrot instead of HOLD ME FOR EVER MOMMY!
I also know I am a two parrot person. There is so much more balance when the birds have each other and me. The threesome is a good balance and I have had multiple parrots in the home before when it was just me. I know two is my limit so I wanted to choose carefully as this will be the last parrot I will have.
So many ideas and attempts fell apart. I finally resigned to the fact that this is not happing any time soon. With my friends visits she also offered to take Valentino for a few days so that he can experience a flock and I can get some alone time (I always miss him when he is away).
I emailed a breeder that I had been in contact with in 2013. I saw they had Yellow Collard macaws and wanted to know if she had any available. She is the other breeder I would get a parrot from because she is in the same class as Valentino's breeder Wendy Craig (they know each other) Well they did not have the yellow collard pair anymore and I was disappointed. I asked her questions about lilac crowns, yellow crown and the Panama. I realized after all the research I have done and what she was telling me about the different little amazons that the Panama amazon would be the best fit. It's their breeding season. Did she have any babies available? I would consider and older parrot that needed a home. I wanted to be open and flexible because I know getting a Panama is not easy.
She told me she had one baby that was almost ready to be pulled. The breeders leave the chicks with the parents for 6 to 7 weeks kind of reminded me of what my Illiger's macaw Diego breeder did called co-parenting. I liked that they do that with the babies. However she only had one baby and the baby was spoken for. I asked her if she would put me on the list for a future Panama baby. The next morning I wake up to a very exciting email. Because of getting to know me (we have been communicating for a while) and she loved my Valentino stories and my relationship with my boy she wanted to offer me the baby Panama. I was stunned. What about the person/s who the baby was reserved for? Did they decided they didn't want the baby anymore. I was very willing to give that baby a home if no one else wanted baby but I know being on a waiting list can take a bit of time before it is your turn.
The way this went down is fate to me. It was like things came together so unexpectedly and smoothly and I know in my heart this is meant to be.
So I announce......late July I will be expecting my Panama Amazon to come home and join Valentino and I. I am beyond excited and I am in preparation mode. I do not have Amazon experience and have not been around many amazons. For the first time since I worked so hard to bring Valentino home I am over the moon about the current events unfolding.
I have a male name picked out but do not have a female name figured out yet. I have no idea the gender and that is exciting too. Normally I have brought home male parrots but this time I am bringing home baby no matter the gender.
I am thinking about female names just in case and am looking into cages. Things have come together for Valentino and I so well.
I most honestly believe in fate. Whole heartily
