So baby girl is a harlequin macaw that I adopted from the rescue I work with about 4 months ago. She came in with a lot of issues that were very severe and she hated everyone but me. So let's start her story a little,
We got a call about a harlequin and a red lored amazon that needed picked up ASAP so one of our volunteers went and decided to do this. The birds came with nothing and really had nothing at all in there cages. The red lored was sweet and so was baby at first, but then the honeymoon was over lol. She got extremely aggressive towards almost every volunteer even attacking one ladies chest. I had no issues with baby girl though she loooooved me. And I loved her there is something about pluckers and mutilaters that takes my heart away and I fall for them. Soo a month went by and baby was getting less attention from other staff and progressing worse as people were afraid.when baby bit that ment blood was getting spilt lol. Soo I was asked to take her home. I have had her home now awhile she is great besides a few small issues. Her plucking has become less severe and she is a happy girl.
I'd like to say please give your birds plenty of toys and stimulation because this is what can happen when you don't...
I had to try sweaters I feel bad for the poor thing she literally had nothing now she is letting some go on her back and chest although she still is messing with her tail and wings. I tell people she is half terodactyle.. Lol
Here is one of how sweet she truly is closing her eyes after put a pillow on her head when I was making my bed on morning and she thought she needed to join in.
She is happy now and this is the true rewards of rescue seeing these birds that are given up on flower and blossom to become amazing. If all I can ask is that you learn please make your birds play with toys and give them things to do. There are many cheap at home toys you can make and give for hours of enjoyment.
I love her dearly and just wanted to share a little about my most recent rescue, a little way of getting you guys to know me and my birds a little better
