Max the 2 year old male sulphur creasted cockatoo and Ruby the 3 month old female eclectus parrot
Hello im new and ill just like to get some help for my new 3 month old female eclectus parrot. When i brought it it had no yellow feathers but the second day it started growing ive had it for 2 weeks now ans it got on its tail under its wing and starting on the head.it is a really playful bird it loves to annoy my 2 year old sulphur creasted cockatoo but i dont let her go near max my cockatoo just incase he gets a little agressive towards her anyway my eclectus parrot has now alot of yellow feathers.I feed it formula in the morning and before it sleeps in the middle i give it a vegetable mix with fresh cucumber, brocoli, carrots, cauliflower, radish, little bit of tomato, parsley, beans and peas.ruby chews em up but dosent really swallow them it is getting used to them but it really likes to eat from the bowl for like a hour and then around 5 hours later i give it frozen mangos then defrost them and grapes, apples, pears, sweet corn, sweet potato, almonds, pumpkin seeds and all in small pieces so ruby can actually eat them.since i got no work for 2 months i take ruby out alot around 5 hours a day and the reminder with max so they can get used to eachother.i really dont know why ruby is getting these yellow feathers she really is a playful bird she loves to sit on my shoulder and nibble on my ear,she loves to sleep on my lap,she is starting to whistle beautifully, she loves to annoy max by trying to take the chilli he is eating, and just loves to play.i havnt had a eclectus psrrot before but i have had lots of other parrots like major mitchell, cockatiels, sulphur creasted, budgies, lorikeets, galahs and many more.i havnt fed ruby any seeds or pellets but idk if the breader has and i think he took it of the formuala but when i gave ruby it still loved and wanted and im still goimg to feed it until it dosent want it also dosent have much feathers on uts head but there growing and its head is startin to have lots of feathers the only worrie is the yellow fetahers can someone please give me advice also sorry for the bad spelling and punctuation because im doing this on my phone and its really hard and very slow.EDIT
Ruby actually only goy alot of half yellow feathers no full yellow ones yet and on its neck it got half yellow blue and green.

The yellow feathers could be a sign of stress (due to a diet change, new environment, new owner, other birds, or?) or possibly due to illness.

If stress, the coloration will go away with her next major molt.

If illness, she should be seen by an avian vet to get her healthy again, and the colors should disappear with the next molt!

Do you have an avian vet????

You should be offering her plenty of fresh foods and whatever else you want her staple to be. It's fine to be offering formula when she's young, but you need to teach her to eat like an adult parrot, too.

Thanks alot for the reply i doubt its illness because its a really cheeky and playful bird and if the yellow feathers stay after her moult then ill be sure to take her to the vet.
Also im having trouble picking a cage for ruby ive got 2 in mind one of them is the cage i got for max and the other is what im thinking to get because i dont have much space for the cage i got for max which is bigger but im also thinking that the cage im thinking of getting for ruby is a little small.
Ive got a picture of both if you can please recommend one.

I'm not a fan of open top cages... I would think the playtop should be fine?

:blue1:Yep thats what i thought thanks for the quick reply and all the help.:white1:

Interestingly, I have two cages one is open top and one is not. I have one in my main home and the other in my get-away-home. I actually LOVE my open top better than the one at home because he is so entertained climbing up and down and all around. The one at home has a play stand on the top but I don't like his personality when he is high above me...he becomes more territorial and difficult. At home I generally use a separate play stand away from the cage which he is on when I'm home which is mornings, nights, all day Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

I think I have that exact playtop which I bought for my ekkie to keep at my moms home when we visit her, or when she bird sits. Works just fine. Though I think Mines a tad smaller at 24x22 inches, so not one I would want for a perms any cage.

If your ekkie is suddenly sprouting so many yellow feathers I don't think you should wait for a molt. The fact that she seems fine doesn't discount the possibility of illness. Birds hide sickness so that they don't appear weak to predators. Often, by the time a parrot starts exhibiting symptoms, the sickness is already quite advanced. This is why we can never hesitate when we see signs of sickness in our birds.

Sure, the yellow coloration could be due to stress rather than illness. But waiting until her next molt, which will probably happen at around 1 year old, could wind up being a fatal delay if she's actually sick. Waiting would make sense for one or two yellow feathers, but not for so large a grouping.

Yes, it could be stress. But are you really willing to take the chance?
