Josie - blue and gold macaw
As a child, my mother always had canaries. They sang and sounded so happy all the time. I was wondering how things might go if I were to get a canary with Josie in the house. I would keep them in different rooms. Does anyone have any experience with two totally different birds like this? I'm wondering if Josie might pick-up some of the canaries sounds or if the canary might not sing because of Josie's yapping. What do you think? Thanks in advance.

they should be fine just being in the same house. i would NEVER have them out together. or even let one climb on the others cage while they are in it. but as for being in the same house i would think fine. even being within sight. might be good for the b&g when its quiet in the house. the canary will add some nice noise.

We have an amazon and an afican brown head and they seem to enjoy being in the same room. They flock call each other and even try to mimic each other to a point.

I think it would be fine.

I have three small parrots and a spanish timbrado canary. Lucas was the first bird and here for a couple of years before I got my quaker. The cages were a foot apart and my canary never missed a beat and kept on singing. i would keep the macaw out of reach of the canarys cage but aside from that I do think they keep each other company. all mine are in the same room and no problem. The only time the canary doesn't sing is during his annual moult.:)

For years my housemate had a large macaw, and I had a canary. The canary sang beautifully and the macaw lived happily (the macaw never made canary noise). I can see no issue with this, other than the obvious of not letting them out together (canaries WILL dive-bomb beings they see as threats, be that strange humans, dogs, cats, or other birds, which could be hazardous to their health). I hope you get a canary (only the males have that beautiful song you're after).

Itll be fine as long as they are not out with each over . Maybe the cages could be in the same room for company
