Avian plus question

Parrots
A cockatiel, a bourke, and three budgies
Elvis has problems with growing feathers. His flights have been growing in all messed up, growing in the wrong direction, and he's broke s couple of them. He went to see a vet today, not his usual vet, but a vet. I was told to give him Avian plus, but I'm wondering if that really helps feather growth. The vet he saw thought he was a cockatoo, so I don't trust her.
Does Avian plus really help feather growth?
I'd like to know before giving it to Elvis.

Sorry I have no experience with Avian Plus...but a vet who can't even properly identify the species of your bird should not be giving advice on what to give them. I would find another vet.

His usual vet is on vacation for the week, I'll have to wait for next week.

Personally, I'd find an avian vet who can get to the root of the problem WHY Elvis' feathers aren't growing in properly. Has he had any sort of testing? For example, Pbfd testing? I hope it's not that, but just saying I'd try and find the real reason for it in the first place before looking for a cure.

He's been tested for many diseases already, including pbfd. I was told it's most likely a genetic thing

Some birds do just naturally grow weird feathers. In the wild birds like that wouldn't have survived (natural selection and all).

Does Elvis still get around alright?

He can walk/run around, and fly downward, but a very short distance, he can't gain hight, he can't stay in the air for over 7 seconds, it's like his wings are clipped again, but they aren't.
I have a picture of the problem wing if needed, his right wing is the one not growing proper feathers.

A picture would be great to get a visual. Has he been clipped before (sorry if it's in another feed)

If he has been clipped before some damage may have been caused, like cutting our finger nails back to far and getting ingrown nails.

He has been clipped twice before, once when I got him, and again when I clipped his left wing after he lost feathers on his right wing.

I think you are right on the genetic angle.
Keep in mind that the further away you get from the natural coloration of a cockatiel the more breeding and inbreeding goes into reinforcing the mutation the breeder is trying to achieve.

I have a Lutino cockatiel that has a bum toe. I am sure it was due to poor controls on the breeder's part.

Love him for what he is and relax. just my opinion.
