Would a blue and gold macaw be considered fully fledged?

Rio is an amazing flyer and it hurts my heart but I've been struggling with the decision to clip him.... Rio is eating our cabinets... Since rio doesn't live in a cage he has full freedom of the living areas and has found his favorite place on top of our cabinets... which he thinks are chew toys..... IF we owned the house it wouldn't be an issue, but unfortunately we live in military housing and will have to replace all damage next year.... $$$$$$$$ So My husband says we either clip him or cage him.... I don't want to cage him so there is my dilemma... :blue1:

:(

None of my other birds destroy anything but the blinds.... which are gone anyway and I already have to pay to replace those... LOL

So after posting this my friends gave me a few good ideas, hanging reflective cds from the ceiling and the shine may stop him from going up there, or adding wood to the top of the cabinets to keep him from being able to chew the cabinets....

I'm going to try them both! yay! fingers crossed they work, i really don't want to clip him :)

If Rio is adventurous, he'll 'play' with the CDs. :54: I didn't mean to laugh while reading your first part, but I honestly couldn't help it. I know that even though my big macs are not clipped, I can NOT leave them unattended or my kitchen cabinets, and any other wooden things in the house would be toothpicks in no time flat.

May I ask why you don't want to consider putting her in a cage while you're busy?

And if he's able to fly and land and is fully coordinated, then he's fully fledged...

Mine would also get locked up if they were going on search and destroy missions.

Sorry that imagery is hysterical. (To me because I'm not going through it lol)

Lol. It would be hilarious if it wasn't happening to me :) ....

So far the hanging CDs have kept him off the cabinets since last night but I doubt it will take long before he figures out he can fly through them and they become chew toys. Lol
If he chews the CDs then maybe he won't eat the cabinet! Hahaha

I can't cage him cause his cage is just a sleeping cage for night. It really isn't good for a macaw in the day because I planned to have him out all the time. Lol. We have tried to order like 4-5 cages already and because we're in Hawaii every time we order one two days later they email saying we have to approve them authorizing our card for an extra 400-800$ in shipping charges. Which I just won't pay. We have tried ordering fr every company from preview to kings cages, were still working on it. It's like they think Hawaii is not America. So I am boycotting all the cage companies (they probably don't even know it though......... Lol.

People here have to spend an average of 400-1000$ More for their cages. :( which would be fine if we were here forever but next year we will be on the mainland and have to buy new cages again cause I won't be able to ship them all...... It's quite frustrating.
