At what age do green cheeks normally cognize human speech?

Mine is about 9 1/2 weeks old, and not only does he not understand a word that I say to him, or his name, but he doesn't seem to cognize the fact that I'm even talking to him at all. He rarely shows sign of responsiveness to any of what I say, and if he does, it's only when I speak very loudly. btw there isn't anything wrong with his hearing.

So I just wanted to ask; at around what age did your green cheek started listening to your words? Cause mine is very affectionate, and extremely tame, but he does seem to have developed almost next to no communication skills with a person.

Have you used any methods to teach him communication skills? They don't come with an innate ability or desire to communicate with us, they must be taught. I would suggest starting to target train him. That will establish a means of communication and cue him in to identify a certain word with a desired behavior. Things will progress from there. And expect a good year (maybe more) before you and your bird *really* have an established way of communicating:)

As a note, Kiwi is 16 and doesn't recognize his name (I suspect he was called something different in his first home, though the lady we got him from told us his name was Kiwi) and responds more to "Hey bird" or snapping your fingers when you need his attention. When we got him around 10 y/o, he obeyed no human command because he had never been taught certain words or phrases meant something before. He is now able to react and respond to numerous verbal cues and uses gestures/body language to communicate his feelings and needs back. All that came with extensive training. I don't think age plays into it as much as training does.
