Still on that mission, but looking for my mushy! <3
My heart was set on a GCC because it is quiet. But I live in a fairly, I - don't - care - what - you - do area. My neighbor has an African Grey, the other has 7 kids, the other is just loud (Don't ask.), and another has the most loudest dog ever. I'm literally the most quiet on the block. Parrot wise, the African Grey seems to be my meter of parrot noise. I do believe it could be a LOT louder (since it is kept outside and I always keep my windows open. I could keep them closed if the parrot was squawking too much.), but I want to be safe from eviction. Note that it will be kept inside a lot. So maybe a level louder than a CAG. This bird also makes noise at NIGHT. I've heard it bark at 2 AM. The people here are nurses and noise at night, day, etc. It isn't much since they're not here or in such a deep sleep from exhaustion.

So, what are some parrots that are just as loud or quieter than an African Grey? Size, expenses, time, I have a LOT to spend. I can also afford the price of a baby up front.

Rose breasted cockatoos are not bad for noise [caiques, lorries also]. Look them up on Bird breeders .com

African Greys tend to be quieter than Green Cheeks in my experience. AGs make high pitched whistles and noises but don't really scream. I have had a lot of GCCs and all of them were loud birds. If you haven't had a bird before I think a GCC would be a better match. AGs are a big commitment and can be very sensitive birds.

No way. :O I was told that GCCs weren't too bad... And I'm not saying GCC vs AG. I'm just asking what kind of parrots are around the same noise level as an AG or less. Maybe even a little more?

I've also looked into Eclectus parrots. They're such fluffy birds! XD

How about Indian Ringnecks? Not too hands on but still affectionate at times, very smart, beautiful, good size, and good talkers. I have had a few IRNs and they were all pretty quiet birds. They are less clingy and needy than a GCC. I also have found that they very rarely bite, they just lightly beak your fingers. They are my favourite bird for many reasons.

They aren't too bad. It varies depending on the individual bird. They aren't all super loud but they aren't all super quiet either.

Eclectus are somewhat quiet, but when they do scream it is very loud.

You could also look at other Conure species besides Green Cheeks.

Pretty well all of the medium to larger parrots can make a lot of noise, though they don't always do so, so it really depends on what YOU want in a pet bird. How much time can you realistically spend with it every day, especially after the "new bird novelty" has worn off? Do you want a cuddly bird or a bird that loves your company but doesn't particularly enjoy being touched? Do you want a talker or a squawker? When you have considered these questions THEN you are ready to narrow down the choices.

I have a RB Cockatoo (12 yrs). He's not very loud. He has his times but they're pretty rare. He's a pretty easy-going, content, quiet gentleman. I realize some are, but this individual isn't. My Congo Grey (11yrs) is one of the loudest parrots I've ever lived with. I read over and over how quiet they are, but not all, obviously. He is happy loud so not really anything to "correct." We just live with it and try to redirect it when it gets beyond tolerance level. Fortunately the Grey loves to tear paper so I can give him that and he'll be quiet while he tears it up, and by the time he's done, he usually just takes a nap. . . I also have an outdoor aviary and he goes out there on nice days, and, wouldn't you know it, he never makes noise outside. I guess he's too busy watching wildlife outdoors to think about it, or he is trying to not get noticed by hawks. So, no matter what you THINK you're getting when you get a parrot, any parrot, it will probably be different than you expect. You learn to work around that. :)

A hours a day, at least. My minimum would have to be 4 hours (out of the cage), since I'm at home a lot. To just see me would be a whole day. Anything less is rare and I usually have the ability to take s/he with me, or I'm gone for more than a day. Meaning, someone would take care of it. I'm dedicated and I have the time. I'm very crafty so toys wouldn't be too bad of an expense. I've also calculated vet visits and have looked into pet insurance for birds. I already have pet insurance for my dog (which isn't cheap!), I'm just having a hard time over that 2000 bucks upfront thing. I don't even know who's behind that screen! Oi...

But continuing! I would like a cuddly bird, and a bit of a lovebug. Not too much though since my pup might become jealous. Jk! And to talk or squawk, I'd appreciate a talker more, but I don't really care for that. :3

Yeah, I'm expecting it! But my neighbor is probably your CAG's long lost sibling. LOL. I just want a good scope of what I want. Maybe if I find an almost mute Moluccan Cockatoo, you KNOW I'm taking him home. :p

I have, but I've thought that they're loud as macaws? Or something close.

I've actually listened to an Eclectus scream on YouTube. Deafening, yes, but I can do it! XD

The list meeting your wish list is very long...
Any of the cockatoos
Eclectus
Conures
Quaker
Lorikeet
Moustache
Cockatiels
Budgies
etc.

I KNOW! I've really thought about it, but I'm going to start probing my mom's powder allergies. She can withstand a non-powdery bird, but powdery? No idea.

And are Galah Cockatoos really not that loud? XD I've also thought about the Eclectus but omg, they're like 1500. I don't want to pay it! I can so afford it though... What to do, what to do...

Conures, I've heard that they're just BAD noise wise. JUST BAD. Like the Moluccan Cockatoo bad, but in a smaller package. Quakers are illegal in California. :( The Lorikeet needs a super special diet of just nectar and want to be in the Poop-BA, lol! No way! And I want a medium to XL bird. I love big! No cockatiels or budgies for me...

My GCC is actually the quietest bird I've ever had - he rarely makes noises louder than a murmur. I sometimes wonder if he's ok! Then, on the very odd occasion when he doesn't see me, he calls for me. Then I know all is well!

My greys were never screamers or loud (I lived in Africa for 25 yrs and had greys but couldn't bring them back here when we relocated...big sniff). They chattered and whistled - all their sounds were awesome. I miss them dearly!

fwiw i'll share my experiences, we had 2 GCC's at first unfortunately they were breeder birds and never held which may influence things but they were incredibly noisy. the volume wasnt nearly as loud as my Mac can get but the tone was the bad part. i'll actually take my Macaws loudest yell over the noise of a gcc again, mostly because she yells for a couple seconds and then is done vs the gcc's would go on for a while. We got a grey after the gcc's and she was by far the most quiet and pleasent bird. the only time she is loud is when she wants attention or just wants to have fun but they are always nice sounds.

with my grey she likes her attention for maybe 2 minutes then wants to cause trouble so overall not too cuddily but she makes up for it in words and say goodbye every morning before work.

Larger Conures aren't as loud as Macaws. Our Blue Crowned Conure is pretty quiet. She doesn't scream much and it isn't anywhere near as loud as a larger bird. They can be loud, but nowhere near as loud as a Macaw or something similar. Conures have all the personality of a Macaw though, they are just shrunken. :)

Ohh... Then what about the Aratinga part of the Conure family, that they're super loud?

And how LOUD is a macaw? So many have been on different scopes... Does it all just depend on the personality instead? I just don't know!
