Ηι there! I have been doing research for many months as to which parrot would be most suitable for me. Since I work from my home office I would have lots of time to play with the birdie and give it lots of toys, love and attention. For a few months I could not make up my mind since I loved all the species. However the minute I stepped in the store, I fell in love with the Alexandrine.
I live in a quite large townhouse in a condo. Walls are pretty thick however my left side neighbors are kind of cranky. Are they really very loud? Ι have seen videos of them and they just chatter all the time and their call sounds low and sweet.
Do any of you have Alexandrines in a condo or apartment? Any problem with noise? Ι would really love having one of those babies as my baby birdie!!!!!!!

i dont live in a house with my neighbours quite close and i have lots of windows open. i have 3 alex's and when i have asked my neighbours about the noise, they can onky hear them when my neighbours are on their back porch. They can get loud, but i think its more shrill then loud. i have a thread on here with a video of my babies going off their head, i think its called "good morning" or "my alarm clock". its oretty much my guys at their worst. they were overly excuted that morning and i had just had a flock of cockatoo's fly over so tgey were trying to talk to them. have a look at it, and remember that it is 3 birds

Can they possibly be any more adorable? Ιt does not sound so bad. Providing there are three birds and if they do not do it all the time... I could say it is my alarm clock :54:. The one I have now is a rooster vibrating alarm so...
In the store I loved the Alexandrine and the Indian ringnecks, but the second ones were quite noisy. Thank you!

I live in an apartment and I haven't had any complaints. I can hear my bird from outside though, I live on the third floor and I can hear him from the bottom of the staircase.

We only have the one alexandrine, Ringo, and he's not mature yet, so I don't know how much louder he'll get...but so far he's not all that noisy I don't think. I mean, he CAN be quite loud, but in his case it's an occasional couple of screeches which he stops when it gets him no response. Ringo does spend a LOT of time talking and/or mumbling though - I suspect teaching him to talk has given him an alternative to screeching.

Most all birds have their loud moments. I really appreciate you being thoughtful enough to consider your neighbors feelings. There are thouse that don't or really care until they get an eviction notice or numerous noise complaints. If you want to be even more considerate, try asking your neighbors on both sides of you how they would feel about pet birds, also check with your home owners association if there are any restrictions. Lastly, check on Youtube for Loud Alexadrine parrots and listen with your speakers turned up full blast to give you an idea how loud they are. But from experience, I say they are pretty loud. Also from experience, the older they get and the more comfortable they get in your home, the noisier they will become. So eventhough they may start out fairly quiet, expect that to change in the future.

:52: I did ask the neighbors and they said they would not mind at all, and that it would be pretty fun to meet the birdie since they both love pets. However I went to ask the management of the condo and they said :( that they do not admit any pet that is kept in a cage. So pretty much cats and dogs only. I am feeling so frustrated right now!!!

Thank you all so much for your help, anyway!!

That's really odd that they would allow cats and dogs and not caged animals. Its normally the reverse. As for when u said about not doing it all the time, its mainly just in the mornings when they hear some one in the house walking around to say good morning uncover us and is break ready, and then when i have a flock of birds fly over head calling out. Right now as i type this, they are all still on the cage playing as kitty still inside. They just talking and making funny sounds. If you could some how convince management to allow u to have a bird, i can't see an Alex being an issue. Just as long as s/he has plenty of toys to keep them occupied whilst u are out etc. Good luck convincing management. Oh and on another note, from my personal experience. Although alex's are larger, found mtg irn's toe louder

If this is a condo, there should be bylaws that are written down and given to you when you purchase your condo or at the time of purchase that you must agree to. What would happen if you had two caged birds before you bought the condo and were not warned about the exclusion before hand?

Don't look at it as frustration, look at it as a good thing that you found out about the exclusion before you brought home a bird. Now maybe you can attend home owners ascociation meetings and try to get the powers that be to change their minds, even if it means going door to door with a petition for the other condo'ers to sign that they don't have a problem with a sqwaking screaming chirping bird.:D

SandyBee, that was the exact same thing I told my husband when we went out of the office!!! :09:
Gemini84, that is really odd, however there are also dog breed´s restrictions (no pitbulls allowed for instance, and my neighbor has two).
I am thinking of waiting for a few months and getting the bird anyway!! Ι have been walking around the condo and I have seen a couple of cages on other people´s living room. I pay lots of money for living hear and if they find out and decide to evict me ... there are lots of other places looking forward to renting!!
Τhank you all for your input and support! you are all great.

The townhouse, luckily, is not mine. When I buy a home it is gonna be in the middle of the forest so my little zoo does not annoy anyone!! The contract specifies that you cannot have any caged animals or certain dog breeds. However, lots of people do have pit bulls, akitas, and other ¨so called¨¨aggressive¨ breeds. And still walks them freely around the condo!!! Ι always thought they had permission, but they obviously do not. You cannot have more than two pets per home (the contract says). But the family in front of me own two cats and two large dogs.
I always like going by the rules, but rules should be the same for everyone. And I want my bird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Barla

I love mine to bits but....yes.....morning and evening they can be LOUD. They have about the same annoyance for neighbours as a big dog.

WHen I have rented I have said

"parakeets"
"What...like budgies?
"Yes...just a tiny bit bigger"
"Aawwww. That's fine"
:)

Buddy my male Alex is quite LOUD ! He has a cheep sound that leaves my ears ringing and he does this sound frequently. By frequently I mean whenever he is not talking. Pandora his mate is very quiet. Buddy lives upstairs in our home, because the Hubby likes to be able to hear the TV when he watches it. Buddy is a clown and I love him dearly, the personality outweighs his volume.
