Are PVC mats safe for use under my bird's cage?

Hi!

I was thinking of buying my bird (a green cheeked conure) a mat to go under his cage made of PVC to make mess cleanup easier. My concern is if it will off-gass any toxic smells. Any tips?

I have those under my bird cages and they're great! They do stink quite a bit when brand new however, so I generally scrub them down on both sides with some dishwashing detergent, rinse them off and leave them out in the yard for a few days to deal with any off-gassing. Have not had any issues with them at all

Same here. Technically I use office floor matts like the kind under chairs.
