Hello everyone.

Does anyone know if ladybugs are poisonous or dangerous to parrots? We recently got an outdoor aviary for our birds, and I planted all sorts of flowers outside the aviary, taking special care to insure that no potentially harmful plants are anywhere near where the birds could come into contact with them. This morning I noticed, that my petunias are infested with aphids :( . In the past, whenever I had a problem with aphids, I have purchased live ladybugs, and put them in my flowers. They munch up all the aphids, and then fly away.
Since I cannot control 1500 ladybugs (or four parrots for that matter) I am wondering if they would pose any danger to the birds, if they were.... Well ingested. My birds normally do not have contact with any insects, save for the other day when Loki ate an ant that wandered into her food dish.

So. Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks!

They aren't going to hurt your bird if they taste one, but trust me, they'll only do it once.

Brightly colored bugs are brightly colored as a 'warning' and ladybugs are no exception. Apparently, they taste really bad. Chances are, your bird would take a bite and spit it out promptly. Might turn her off from orange pellets. :)
