I wondering if cast iron radiators are bad for bird because they sometimes smell and i looks like it has paint because its chipping. Its getting pretty cold and didn't want them to get cold.

I tried looking online but didn't find anything useful, a rule for me is avoid anything with a strong smell and if it might be dangerous but I'm not sure I don't use it.

If you worried about your birds being cold you can get them a heated perch for $70-$100, or use a heat lamp with a dimmer(Flucker's has a dimmer on their cord). I recently bought Rosie a heat lamp just in case, I use a 75watt bulb but with a dimmer you can go higher and control the heat output. Just make sure your bird can't reach it.

I know that cast iron is considered safe, and if it doesn't contain PTFE, I would assume it's safe.

Have you tried contacting your avian vet to be sure? And what about the manufacturer on the safety of the product for pets?

Birds, if acclimated, can withstand temperatures into the 50's F, and quakers are pretty hardy little birds! I've seen pictures of wild quakers in Chicago and New York eating in the snow!
