Anyone know where to get safe parts for homemade bird toy's?

I have been wanting to make Bird toys myself as it's been getting expensive recently to buy them, does anyone know what kind of parts I can use? I know a few stuff like popsicle sticks cupcake wrappers but anything else? And are there any particular brands that are safe and that are not? And if I could just buy that stuff at a Walmart or something?

Where about are you? The Parrot SHop in Canada sells parts, as does I think, BIrd Tricks in the USA. Not 100% sure about Bird Tricks.
