Hello all-

At the rescue I'm working with now, they have a yellow collared macaw. He seems to be not content in this setting, and I'm really considering adopting him. I've read a little about the species, but he seems to not be as noisy as I was expecting, besides when he talks.

Are they generally quieter than the bigger macaws? He seems a little skittish of people too because when I approach the cage and put my hand near him he scoots away, but maybe it's just because there is so much commotion.

Anyways, I'd love to hear from y'all and your experiences with them. Here's a picture :)

No personal experience with them, but I've heard a lot of great things about them! :)

Thanks :)

Like I said he seems to not be a screamer, but he will talk when you talk to him. He doesn't seem too happy where he's at though, he just sits around and just says "ow" over and over. Someone was/is a biter I think :p

I knew a Yellow Collared for quite a few years back out West. She was quite a pleasant parrot... not very loud (although --- consider that I live with a Patagonia Conure). She was playful, impressively destructive with toys for a smaller guy, and outgoing/friendly... although that may have been related to gender. She had laid eggs so that's how we knew she was a girl. From what I recall, her owner said she was typical. She was a very mature brd, too, because the yellow collar was quite large, which I was told occured with age. I would love to think of you adopting that darling.
Precious face... looks a bit like the Rickeybird.

Like I said, I haven't worked with him at all, besides just talking to him. When I go again next time I definitely will work with him. Hopefully I can get him happy and playing with toys if I take him home.

Chase, I'll see if I can track down my old buddy back in NM to see if he would like to comment or correspond with you, if you like.

I had one as a foster years ago and I loved him! Sadly, he succumbed to the rough history he'd come from, but I had intended to adopt him myself. It is constantly in the back of my mind that I'd like to have one some day.
Let us know how it goes! I'd love to see updates.

The more I've read about them and the more videos I watch, the more excited I get about him. I'm hoping to go on Tuesday so I'll definitely let everyone know :)
