Any info on a Pionus do's and don'ts including diet.

Hopefully picking up our first bluehead Pionus tomorrow. We'd like to get as much feedback as possible on what we will need to do to make this bird healthy and happy. Thank you

The breeder said they've named him peekaboo cause that's all he'll say but we'll see.

Well, not to be biased but I think you just made one of the best choices as far as parrots goes.

Pionus are great birds! As for do's - strong emphasis on veggies and fruit. Cockatiels are an example of a seed-based parrot diet and can get away with more seed in their diet than most parrots. However, Pionus are more into their chop and mash than most other species.

They're also prone to sinus infections. That's how I lost my first pionus, August . They also don't have a preen gland, so they require a little bit more bathing to keep the dander down .

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I guess you already know about the Pionus 'wheeze' and their smell.
