This is the galah I got yesterday, its been injured, was left alone for 24 hours before coming into my care and is now healing, poor baby. Not sure on age. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to help him.
He has apprently been vet checked and got the all clear.
Any advice would be appreciated
also the vet said he is a fledgling, anyone know how to tell rouggly how old?
I have named him Yeti.

Thanks for rescue. If vet says fledgling then thats about 8+ weeks. But all larger parrots continue to be fed by parents longer. Double check with vet about term to see what he means for sure. My first avian vet used the term to mean flying and beginning to forage independently. He worked at avian part of zoo during school. I kinda adopted that. Never asked #2 or 3 their specific.

To me, fledgling means he's left the nest. When my baby budgies "fledge" they are learning to fly and the dad bird continues to feed them for a few weeks as they learn how to eat on their own. My babies returned to the box frequently for a couple weeks after fledging and hung out with Mom as she incubated the next clutch. Larger parrots are fed longer.

I would think this baby would still need parent feeding assuming he's parent fed from the wild. The problem with trying to begin hand feeding at this age is they aren't likely to accept it. Even my parent raised budgies won't accept starting hand feeding after three weeks old.

What I would do (after discussing with an avian vet) is offer lots of warm, soft food in a dish or from a spoon. Don't try to syringe feed unless you are an expert because it's too easy to choke him or for the baby to inhale it and die. Hopefully he's already eating well on his own.

Yeti is just adorable!

**Points up** What the others said. I know nothing about Cockatoos. But thank you for taking in the poor baby!

I absolutely love Galahs.

Thank you for rescuing...

What do you mean she was injured?

Let him settle in for at least a few days before trying anything. Let him open up at his pace of acceptance and not your pace of expectation.

TO me this looks more like plucking or over preening then being a fledgling.

I thought the bird was wild but it wasn't clear. Wild birds don't overpreen or pluck, do they?

Thank you everyone.
Update on Yeti...
I agree, I don't think he is a fledgling at all, he hates the mix the vet gave me (egg and biscuit) so I tried him on seed and he is loving it. He is slowly building a bond with me, I'm determined to not push him because he has been through enough already. He has a small wound on his tummy and one on his head, the vet didn't know much of his back story but I can promise his story from now will be filled with lots of happiness.
