I have just put a deposit on a baby sun conure and he/she will come home with me in a couple of months, if not sooner!!!! I am so excited :)
For those of you who have not read my intro, I will be bringing home my first sun in the next cpl of months. Went to the bird shop at the flea market and I was instantly picked! He walked up to my shoulder and started giving lots of kisses and I fell in love. I would like all the info I can get in regards to proper care and nutrition for him. I have been owned by 'tiels in the past and I assume it's similar, however I am aware that conures are more complex and most likely require some things that tiels dont.

I have always enjoyed company of feathered friends and 'tiels have always been my favorite but I do think I have found a second favorite feathered friend. My girls are absolutely in love with him also. My son doesn't really care--he's a dog person/ ferret person( love those too even though they stink to high heaven..lol)

Anyways, I would like to get any links that you feel are important so that I can make sure my new baby has everything he will need. I want to have his supplies ahead of time, so that when I bring him home I can focus on him and not worry about "what did I forget to buy":eek:

Hi, congrats on your new baby coming home soon.
You can actually just run through many many posts in the conures forum here and there's a lot of info.
For starters, just be sure to have his cage ready with the perches and toys, and have a supply of pelleted parrot food and an appointment with your avian vet for an initial exam. That way you can get that baseline and also find anything slightly off balance and correct it before he gets sick.
I am also someone who uses a full spectrum light on a timer for my birds, and i made sure i had that all set up before Gilbert came home.
Other things i find helpful from the start--healthy treats (nutriberries or something like that) and a T stand/java tree/table top perch (one or all of them). When Gilbert first came home he wasn't thrilled with being held too much or too long, but he would come out and interact/play with me on his table top perch. I also have a T stand on wheels that he can hang out on.
Suns can become very squawky when they are bored and calling for attention. Good to have a supply of toys and things to keep them busy and actively engaged. Suns tend to have a "mouthy" way about them anyhow, which is kind of endearing in its own way of course, but i know first hand that if they want to be annoying because they are bored/frustrated, they can be very good at it. :)
