OOOOOOOOOOOOH, I never heard a lori talk before. What a preciously parrot-y little voice! Sweet as pie. I love the way he scrambles around getting the views he wants.

What an adorable voice:) He is gorgeous.

I agree..wonderful colors on Lori.

I remember, years ago,I took a trip to florida and went to The Tampa Zoo...they have a HUGE aviary with a bazzilion Lori's. for 25 cents you could get a little plastic cup that had nectar in it.
As soon as you walked into the aviary,a TON of Lori's would be landing on you! They knew what you had in your hand! They'd climb all over me,fighting each other to get to the nectar.
They were hanging from my glasses,on my head,shoulders..everywhere there was a lori lol..
I had such a good time I went back the next day lol.

There is a "lori lounge" at the Cleveland Zoo's "Outback Exhibit".
It *IS* amazing. The birds cover you like flies and they do not take "no" for an answer...

I LOVE the birds at the Cleveland zoo!!! I take long weekend trips to Cleveland at least 10 times a year, if not more, it's about a 3 hour or so drive for me, and I'm a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, so I can go to the Museum and the Hall of Fame for free as often as I want to. So I typically go to the Rock Hall first, then to Tower City shopping, then to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch or for dinner, and there's an Irish pub and restaurant within walking distance that I love. I typically stay at the Marriott right downtown at Key Center so I can walk around downtown, there's a really cool blues club downtown I love.

Anyway, I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony when it was in Cleveland in 2014 at Public Hall, I managed to nab a ticket to see Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Lou Reed, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble, Green Day, Ringo Starr, and Paul Butterfield Blues Band inducted (awesomeness), and the day before the ceremony I went to the zoo. I've been there 5 times since just for the bird exhibition. I don't remember if they had it the first time I went or not, but the zoo was worth going back to anyway. Cleveland is an awesome city, the birthplace of Rock and Roll, lake Erie is amazing, the dunes are very cool to see, and I've never felt awkward walking around downtown at night by myself before.

The zoo is definitely worth the trip...So is the market!

Was it the Tampa Lowry Zoo? I have a picture of my daughter there feeding them with one that landed on her head. I didn't know people actually keep them as pets.

A lory experience at Parrot Jungle was what decided me I had to have parrots and started on a year-long campaign to convince my parents of it. Unlike my efforts to get them to let me have chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, and pigeons, that one proved more successful, possibly because I was older, possibly because I was finally lobbying for what most people would consider pets rather than farm animals. Of course lories were out because of their mess; good thing for them I didn't know about Iris lorikeets then. My favorites in order were the tiny perfect lorikeets in their many shades of green, the larger Halloween-colored dusky lories, and the mid-sized rainbow lorikeets which at the time were treated as one species. (I still can't tell the various species and subspecies apart, though I haven't really made an effort to.)

The San Antonio Zoo, which is the closest zoo to me, has a lory aviary but it's all rainbow lories, though they have several distinct species/subspecies of them. They charge three bucks for nectar, and fill the ridge around the bottom of the cup so that most of the bottom is still dry. Is it still worth doing to get the lories to land on you? Once in awhile, but I'm not ever going to buy refills like we did at Parrot Jungle.

Thank you for sharing. I have just gotten a young rainbow lorikeet. I don't know, why I haven't thought of diaper, as I have been a bit worried about the mess and the frequiency of the mess.

Is there anything you could recommend a new rainbow lorikeet owner?

I have purchased mango, melon, pineapple and blueberries in small chunks frozen. I have also purchased LoriDry to be awailable in "her" cage and LoriNectar as a special treat for when "she"'s out playing with me.

As training is very important to me, I have to find a suitable training treat. Do you have any suggestions? Should be something "she" can devour in a few seconds.
