Hey Guys

My my name's Mel, I live in Sydney Australia & share my home with my husband, 2 kids, 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 snakes and an Eclectus Parrot.

I adopted my first Galah a couple of years ago. When I went to the breeders house I was disgusted with the state of the house and birds and as a former vet nurse I should have walked away but I didn't and took the bird home. I feel in love with him even though he was a grumpy little sod, sadly Cooper was never 100% healthy, and over the 18mths we had him we spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at the bird spe******t getting tests for every bird-disease known, xrays etc but came up empty handed.:( Unfortunately this ended in heartache but I really learnt a valuably lesson on choosing a breeder.

5 days ago I bought home my 13wk old female Eclectus, Shadow. She is perfect, healthy and I love having another parrot in the house. I have done a tone of research on the Eclectus and am really excited about sharing my life with Shadow for many, many years to come and sharing my story's with all of you. :)

Welcome to the forum, Mel! Pleased to meet you.

Sorry about your experience with your galah, but I'm glad that you can have a better experience with a parrot this time.

Enjoy your stay!

Howdy there Mel from the land of beautiful birds. I often see films about the gorgeous birds in Austraila. How lucky your are to live there. We would love to see some pics when you get a chance. Happy to have you on board.

A big warm friendly welcome Mel :)
At least you gave Cooper a good home and love
Browse around, lots of interesting posts, friendly members and lovely pic's.
Such a wonderful experience hand rearing a bird, seeing all the changes daily
Good luck, oh yeah, we love sharing pic's

Thanks for your welcome messages. I'm quite amazed at what a friendly group this seems to be, it's great to be able to talk to other "crazy bird people" (as my daughter calls us) and to realise you're all as obsessed with your feathered friends as I am. I think it makes our world a much brighter place.

I've added a few photos to my page of both Cooper and Shadow, am still finding my way around the site and will upload them to the main gallery when I've worked out how.

Welcome Mel. I too am an Aussie with a male Eclectus named Puffin who has just turned 1. He is the delight of my family and I cannot believe how much he has leant in the nine mths we have had him. His cage faces our front door so he can see poeple coming before we can and we always know someone is there because he greets them with "Hello" before they have even had a chance to knock. He has a different voice for each family member and another for friends and a different voice again for strangers lol.
