As I mentioned in previous posts, we are to be getting 2 pairs of pacific parrotlets tomorrow and I also planned on ordering leg bands for baby budgies soon. I figured I might as well get p'let bands awhile just so I can pair the order. I've been looking all over the internet and can't seem to get a good answer for this though. According to L&M the appropriate sized band for a parrotlet is english parakeet, parakeet or lovebird. From what I've been reading, the lovebird bands really aren't appropriate for pacific p'lets as they are too large and can get snagged, a lot of sites recommend the english budgie size which is 5/32''(3.7mm) according to L&M, some sites say that you can use american parakeet or english parakeet bands. The american parakeet bands are 9/64''(3.4mm). It seems like a really small size difference but I wasn't sure if I could get away with only ordering the american budgie bands or if I should also order the english budgie bands? According to L&M it says both are okay but I don't want the bands to be too small and injure the bird's growing leg but I also don't want it to be so big that it can get caught on anything. Any advice? I would prefer to just order the american budgie ones because it would just be less confusing and cheaper, but the welfare of the birds is far more important than anything. So, is it safe to use the 3.4mm bands for a pacific parrotlet?
