CAG Hen-Gracie age unknown, U2 Rooster-Anakin 2008-11/2/2024 RIP
Some of you may remember the saga of Anakin (Anna) U2
He was originally owned by two elderly ladies. One of these ladies passed and the others family decided she needed to be in assisted living. Of course no facility would accept a cockatoo. He was passed around various family members until they gave him to a very well meaning lady with unfortunately no experience with birds much less a distraught cockatoo. I found out that she tried to place him with various rescues but they wouldn't take him. She was going to have him put down because she couldn't deal with the constant screaming. I went and got him three days before he was set to be put down.
His feathers were brown and he reeked of smoke. I'm a smoker but not in the house and not around the birds. This did not happen around the lady I got him from. She had only had him three days. Unfortunately she took some abuse from some people here when she was only trying to do good but didn't realize what she was getting into. I bless her to this day for her efforts
So fast forward
My best buddy, travel and shopping companion. There was an employee at Home Depot that would literally take him away from me and meet me at check out. She loved him and him her.
He passed away 11-2-24. Something fell in the kitchen and made a loud noise. He spooked and fell in his cage.
He died in my arms and left a massive hole in my life and heart that can never be filled

Dave I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I've got a hole or two like that myself and you're right, they can never be filled. As awful as it is to lose them though, I think it's better he passed with you, surrounded by your love, than in some clinic somewhere wondering where you were. My deepest condolences, prayers and hugs go out to you, and may you be comforted with precious memories of Anakin until you meet again at the Bridge 💝

My deepest sympathy for your loss, Dave. Like many, I've had to feal with the loss of a treasured companion parrot.
