So a few months back I came over to Boston from the uk. I hired a car and was getting on fine until my last day when I was taking the car back to the rental place.... Got a little bit carried away burning gas when I was pulled over by a friendly sheriff and given a speeding ticket...., which I didn't pay :S

A week ago I got a letter saying that my driving licence for mass has been taken away so I can no longer drive there!!!

My question is.
If I come to the states again, to Florida to see my uncle or Cali for a holiday will I get in??? would I have to pay the fine At passport control or will I be ok???

Hope people's can help.... And sorry for ripping your country off :)

Just wire me the funds and I will take care of it.

I have never heard of a cross check for outstanding traffic violations at customs. Usually the rental place bills your credit card for outstanding fines.

As lpolliard said, traffic and/or parking citations are usually charged to the customer's credit card, if they are sent to the rental company.....if the car was rented to another, a charge could go against their driver's license and/or credit card as being responsible for the vehicle.....depending on the speed at which you were ticketed and the environment you were ticked it...school zone/area, hospital, etc., there could be more serious charges in one jurisdiction than another, however, if you were merely ticketed & allowed to continue on your way, the jurisdiction probably rates the offense as something less than misdemeanor, which is below criminal, though if you had a propensity for enjoying the wind in your hair, a collection of offenses might cause the status to change accordingly.....

If you were driving on an international license, it is possible that that license might get flagged and a renewal not be issued without clearing the problem, in which case a $80 fine may require $500 or more to straighten things out.....depends on the jurisdiction.....

As to you being flagged as a person of ill repute and not desirable in the U.S., I doubt it, but you could call the U>S. consulate at home & inquire of them.....

Good luck.....

Well nothing has been charged to my credit card/debit card. And I've an outstanding fine of $300ish
The very kind sheriff just said. 'Dunno what you want to do about it, doubt they'll chase you to England..... Have a good day' and walked off. If all there going to do is take my licence away for driving in mass, I'm not that bothered!!! Just don't want it flagging up and not allowed into the country....

You should be allowed in the country without issue if that is all that occurred. But you must understand that your Mass Drivers License has been suspended for failure to pay a traffic citation. So if you try to rent a car or drive in the United States and you get pulled over, they will run your name, it will show the suspended drivers license and they will arrest for if you are caught driving. You also can't rent a car once they run your name and find the unpaid traffic ticket.

If you NEVER EVER plan to come back to the States, I wouldn't worry about it. But if you do, I would contact The people who sent you the letter and try and work something out as far as paying the fine and any late fees. Your license here will still be suspended even if you pay the fine and late fees, so you will have to go through the process of getting it re-instated once you go back to that jurisdiction.

I hope this helps you out.

I wouldn't wire anyone anything. Just pay your fees and reapply for a driver's license.
