Not sure if every big city has these, but in Portland there are places where food trucks congregate and it's a big outdoor, pick your food from any one of 15-20 or so food carts kind of thing. Anyways, we have one right down the street and last night we took Kiwi with us to the food carts for the first time (I've seen plenty of people with dogs, so I don't think anyone cares about animals being there and he was in his pak-o-bird). OMG he went nuts. The smell and sight of junk food *everywhere*, it was like amazon Disneyland. Lots of hilarious and slightly embarrassing squeals and honks. He got to share my "healthier" (not sure any food from a food cart qualifies as healthy:p) vegan wrap with me, but he did not get any of the slightly less healthy for a parrot looking Chinese food my husband got. I did feel the beady orange eye of "how could you do this to me" upon me when he was offered beans, rice and whole wheat tortilla from mine rather than the greasy food hubby had:rolleyes: He did get a pretty big piece of a chip from my meal, so that made him super happy:)

We live in an area of over regulations on food trucks. Our nearest like events are a couple of City level celebrations that have well over 50+ food tents and a long list of Entertainment active occurring in a very large part of our Downtown area. I believe that it currently is spread out over a mile square of the Downtown area.

Julio has a very difficult time when the words NO and Food are found in the same sentence. There is no pease until something is in the Bill! Such a visit would likely involve long explanations to law enforcement officers; 'no' there is not a spoiled little girl in the carrier - its our demanding male DYH Amazon using all of his tools to access Food!

One of the Basics of Living with an Amazon, Greatly Simplified: "Its Mine, Its all Mine!"

Kiwi rules at your Amazonian Disneyland (Food Land)!

There might be riots in Portland if government tried to take the food trucks away lol. They're extremely popular here and actually give a lot of people the opportunity to run their own little business (these food truck "stations" are all over the place). Kiwi, now that he knows such a thing exists, is sure to demand to keep going back all summer long:p I'm not sure which is his favorite place to go now, Home Depot or the food truck place:D

Tell Julio Kiwi will steal some extra junk food from the humans for him next time;)

I'm not sure the World as we know it would ever be the same if our two guys ever got together! :D

They'd likely plan and execute an Ocean's eleven style plot against a Doritos factory or something:p Kiwi's been plotting a big junk food heist for a while and just needs a trustworthy accomplice:53::green::eek:

Mine is obsessed with French fries (Especially Bill Millers) lol

Yup, ours enjoys the occasional short fry as well. As long as they eat mostly healthy food, the occasional junk food treat keeps an amazon happy and well adjusted:)

I stay away from fast food...but on occasion I get a hankering for a fish fillet from McyDee's..along with fries..I will even ask them to give me a fresh batch with no salt just so Amy can have a couple lol.
Then there is the occasional plain munchkin from dunkin donut.. :green:

Most fast food places have nothing I would be willing to eat, but Portland actually has vegan fast food places. Thankfully for my waistline and wallet, those places are at least a 20 minute drive from where we live now, kind of expensive and a few times a year treat;) Kiwi loves that stuff though when I do get it, especially breading and sauces and fried foods (things I never make at home). I do make oven fries at home and leave a few unsalted for him, so he eats fries more often than other things.

Lucky Amy gets donuts?! Besides my homemade baked donuts that don't have any kind of "glaze", I don't know if Kiwi has ever had a 'real' donut! Not sure I want him to know such a thing as a cream filled, fried, sprinkled and sugary concoction even exists:rolleyes:

Years ago, Sally's favorite thing in the whole wide world was to be pushed around a grocery store, riding on the handlebars of the cart. And the local grocery store looked the other way...

THE ONLY TIME I EVER GOT KICKED OUT...

They had a wall of cheese crackers, which she loves, and she knows the box. I rolled right by the display, and didn't pick any up.

She pitched a full volume amazon fit, and we had to leave the store!

So was my DYH. I tried not to let his grandma spoil him too much, but at the same time, life is boring without the occasional treat.

Do you like your Pak-o-Bird? I came across them recently and I want one so bad I can hardly stand it. :) I'm guessing a blue front needs the medium rather than the small. The green is more unobtrusive than the gold, but I like the gold color better. What's your review? :green:

I'd be mortified if Kiwi made loud squawks in a store:eek::34::12: It was bad enough when he decided to square up to a Halloween decoration and do a full flashy "I'm a big bad bird" display, sans loud noises:rolleyes: But, in all fairness to Sally, cheese crackers (or cheese anything really) is a universal love of all amazons and you just passed those crackers by, so, uh, ya that was your fault:D

We've had ours several years, it was worth every penny! I prefer the backpack for trips out in public and so does Kiwi (he's allowed on my shoulder, but doesn't really like being up there). Keeps him safe, keeps anyone who wants to say hi to him safe, can be buckled into the car, no poops running down your back if he couldn't hold it, don't need a separate emergency cage etc... We can also go on public transport with it, since the buses/light rail here requires animals be in carriers. We got the green. They apparently make custom colors too, but being as expensive as those dang things are, I can only imagine the cost for a custom colored one! I do believe we got the medium, the one recommended for amazons. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

The "munchkin" is what comes from when they make the "hole" in the donut. Amy doesn't get anything with filling or glazed..just the "plain" donut.
The girls at the counter are accustomed to seeing her with me,and when I get my coffee or hot chocolate, there is always a munchkin waiting lol

The dangerous part is that they would have it all planned and put into action before we would have any idea of the plot! At present, the only give-away that there is a heist underway is that its get 'way-to-quiet' when the "Game's a Foot."

Recreating plots that have been sprung around here is like a postmortem of a crime. Well, the plots have so much in common with a crime that its more likely one and the same! :D

Ah. I thought it was one of those mini donuts that usually come in a package (or maybe they don't even make those any more???) :p Thats sweet they always have her birdie 'donut' waiting for her when you go in:) Does she eat it there?

Edit: Guess they are indeed just called mini donuts. My mom used to buy these on the weekends, and they'd be about perfect size for a parrot to hold (sadly, Kiwi will never know the deliciousness of a glazed or powdered sugar or chocolate donut):

Yes she'll munch on it there! We sit at a table and I lay out some napkins, breake the munchkin in half and she happily munches a few bites, then ends up just tearing the rest to shreds for me to pick up
