Amazon making strange noises

Hi everyone! My in laws have a 36 year old amazon Tweety. He has an attachment to me and will only step up to me and even began flying to me. I’ve been living here for 1 year and over the past week Tweety has been doing some strange things I haven’t noticed before. I assume that it is mating but I’m unsure. Also, side note they never found out his gender so we are unsure about that as well. I have a video of his actions but it’s not allowing me to attach it to this forum. Essentially, he is making a screech and a honk one right after another and pressing his/her tail up against the side of the cage (tail up and head down). Is anyone familiar with this action and is it gender specific? Thanks!

There are several behaviors that can be tied to one sex or the other. But for every one I have called, the next have been totally opposite...
Likely a she, but as I said above, been wrong as much as I have been right.
So, have your Amazon DNA Sexed, cost for a sex test is fairly inexpensive. A full Vet check is also recommended.

By the way, what species Amazon has become highly interested in you?

With this year, and it being an unusually and extensive Hormonal Season, near Worldwide, you are likely seeing Hormonal behavior. And, clear s/he has targeted you..

Tweety is a yellow naped amazon. Any idea how long this behavior lasts? It’s been going on now for 3-4 weeks. We are going to do the DNA test once this virus resolved and we can get to the Parrot place. Thanks for your insight!

In a normal year, it's about 3 - 4 weeks, this year has been so strong that it could last yet again as long.

Take a long look at just how much good sleep your Yellow-Naped Amazon (YNA) is getting. As a means of slowing /greatly reducing the hormonal flow, target 12+ hours of continuous sleep with a couple of naps during the day. Head scratches only! Do not touch or rub any other part of the body!

Definitely mating issue... and I'm guessing if the butt is up in the air, and there are honking noises going on Tweety is a she...

Your bird is hormonal.

That is all this means. I'm very, very horny at the moment.

I have three female amazons in the house presently exhibiting the exact same behaviors, so consider this an "educated guess."

Napes are one of the Hot 3 amazons... they have a longer breeding season than the rest of them.
