Walker and I took Stitch to the vet for a well visit last week! It's the first time I've taken a bird to the vet, and I was very excited, but also nervous. They were absolutely incredible. We were escorted to the Exotics department, and the doctor-- Colin McDermott-- spent well over an hour with us. He was teaching at the time, so it was extremely thorough. He was given a clean bill of health and I was invited to email him at any time with any questions about Stitch OR Geordi, and emailed a comprehensive discharge. I had such a blast! I also was of course so proud of Stitch-- they really loved him <3

It is so good to have a positive experience like this. I wish others would take their bird for a well exam yearly. Love the photo!!

I always love to see it when people tell stories about great experiences they've had with vets, stores, other peeps, etc. I am sure the bird Doc's appreciate too.

That's great! I've never had the opportunity to deal with the exotics department but our dog had to stay at their facility for over a week and they were absolutely wonderful the whole time! And they saved her life!

Okay - I have to tell this story. My husband and I took my two rescue parrots in to the vet for the first time shortly after I brought them home. The vet was aware that we had no clue what we were doing. One, Secret, is far from calm (getting better now, 6 months later). When the vet let her out of her cage and she came out - he extended his hand to her and before you know it - she ran UP his arm around the back of his neck and bit him on the back of the neck! We were in shock and didn't know what to do about it - he calmly walked to the exam table and shook her off and continued with our conversation like nothing happened.

Yeah - I like this doctor . . . . he's awesome with my parrots.

Yeah experience shared by you over here is really seems to be fantastic. Now taking pets to good veterinarian is very important for getting there good health. There are many veterinary hospital available all over like Austin veterinary hospital, serving from many years and provides best medical health care services.

Basil went for his well bird checkup this week. We, too, had a positive experience. I wasn't sure if he'd be comfortable stepping up on me in a strange environment but he happily came out of his travel cage and took advantage of my generosity with the treats while we were there. The avian vet and her assistant were very thorough, gave us a "report card" summarizing the visit and told me to keep up with whatever I was doing with Basil because he looked great. We're very fortunate to have this avian vet so close to home.

I am so glad to hear this as this is where i am going to be applying for vet school when i get that far into my college education. always nice to hear good things about places you plan on depending on for your education:p.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was it for the exam? I've got two conures and a parakeet that should probably go for a well visit, as well as Sydney again to get checked out and probably bloodwork.

I looked on the site but didn't see anything. I have to head down there next week to Penn's Dental clinic. XD
